I have heard that water going down the drain of a sink or bathtub ALWAYS spins in one direction (clockwise) in the northern hemisphere and in the opposite direction (anticlockwise) in the southern hemishpere.
Is this true ?
And if so how exactly does that work ?
I mean obviously it would have something to do with the bipolarity of the H2O molecule and Earth's magnetic field, but I don't know the details...
I've googled a little but found no useful answer...

I see, that was very interesting.
Interestingly I have noticed that my bathtub always drains clockwise. Then that must be an effect of it's shape.

There's a neat episode of "Long Way Down" (travel doc with Ewan McGregor), in which they spin water on both sides of the equator while motorcycling down Africa.
