Hey folks. Looking forward to getting my copy for Christmas! (Thanks Santa) I've seen some cool pics online of Matchbox or Hot Wheels with machine guns, armor, etc. Does anyone have any ideas about where to get these things? It would be great to get accessories that were the right scale or close to the right scale for these cars. All your help is greatly appreciated!

I ordered some cool stuff from these two sites:

http://www.stanjohansenminiatures.com/Road.htm

http://shop.ramshacklegames.co.uk/index.php

Both were excellent, I would recommend.

I would also check out Reaper Miniatures CAV figures. They're N scale (approximately 1:144, or about 12mm) - while the infantry are too small to use, you could adapt some of the tanks' and mechs' weapons to glue to your hotwheels. They're mostly made out of easy to cut, easy to mod plastic.

If you can find old wizkids Mechwarrior stuff, chopping the guns off of those figures would also be good - I think they're about the same scale as Reaper's CAV (about 10mm), so tank and mech stuff would look OK on hotwheels. Check out ebay.

I also bought a few Jada battlemachines, and while they are super cool, they are unfortunately too large to battle alongside matchbox/hotwheels - they're a full 50-100% larger and look really weird! Though their semi trucks will work, as those are a bit smaller compared to their other cars.

20mm is about the right size for most hotwheels/matchbox cars, but the scale does vary some across those brands.

I posted this very question at another site, you can see those replies here:

I plan to arm my cars for 'gasland' with weapons from here
http://www.sgtsmess.co.uk/modifications/goodies-for-mechanic...

They're 1/72 scale so they'll be a bit small but others have been using them and they look pretty good.

If they are 1/72 scale, then they'd be a bit big for most hotwheels. but for things like guns and such, that won't matter much.

Whoops, of course the user below is right. I got thrown off by the wikipedia page that cites 1/64, hotwheels scale as 25mm. It's not, it's more like 20mm. I don't have any 25mm figures that look anywhere near OK next to my hotwheels!

Also in the US here and agree. Generally seems the UK is way better served when it comes to war gaming. Recently ordered some stuff from Spruebrothers. I'll let you all know what I think when it arrives.

We are building simple mods out of toothpicks, plasticard and various dowels/wires etc.

Actually working pretty well. I'm not much of a painter but I enjoy it - and my boys like crafting also. So now we're stripping paint and going crazy on some old hot wheels.

I'm pretty please with the results so far. I have a car with a rocket launcher made of a square dowel and some toothpicks that's pretty cool and interchangeable with other items I make in the future.

Still - would be nice to get some really inexpensive sprues of weapons. I'm sure I can get some on eBay if I look.

Example WIP:

No,they'll be too small 1/72 is smaller then 1/64.

Brigade Games, who sell North Star minis for Frostgrave, etc in the US, have parts sprues available.

http://brigadegames.3dcartstores.com/Vehicle-Customization-P...

Lots of stuff in there and a complete pack of all sprues that would probably sort everything you would likely need for all your vehicles. I'd be tempted to grab multiple of some weapon sets though.
