Star Cartel adds a new twist to the pick-up-and-deliver genre. Rather than simply delivering, you get to affect the stock price on the goods you are transporting. Each player starts off with a basic ship which is upgraded after you make a delivery. The new ships will have an increased capacity plus a special ability. Players load their ships with goods (up to two per turn) and once full, off they go.

The stock price of the largest commodity being delivered immediately goes up by two, with the lowest commodity going down by one. Any commodity that sits in between you keep as your face-down stash. You have to be cautious when increasing the stock price of an item because if the price goes over nine, the market is considered to have crashed causing the value of the stock to plummet to one. The challenge comes when selecting which stock to deliver as you want to fill your ship as quickly as possible while making sure you gain the most out of it. At game end you count your holdings (stash), multiplying these by their final stock price, adding to the total the points scored by your final ship.

It’s a simple but challenging game which is best played by 3 / 4 players, any more than that and things could get a bit random . Whatever the number, the proceedings should be wrapped up in 45 minutes. The component quality I’d describe as average, which is not a criticism. You don’t really need flashy graphics in a game like this/
