To a New Land
by Eric Lascelles
Time to play: 10-15 minutes
An epic adventure unfolds from within this two-person 18 card microgame: you voyage from Hamburg to a farm in the New Land, jostling to acquire the necessary skills, family, crops, animals and workers to succeed upon your arrival.
While you have considerable control over what path to pursue, your opponent also has some say in the matter. Earn money along the way by working temporary jobs, playing the lottery or importing goods for sale. Screw your opponent by grabbing the first turn advantage at a pivotal moment!
The game uses an innovative card swivel/flip feature to generate enormous variability in the experience from game to game despite the small number of cards, and a winning farm will look very different based upon this, and depending on what type of terrain is available in a particular game.
The game is also mechanically unique in that the two players share cards, keeping track of who owns what via a clever categorization system.
