I played the game for the first time tonight and ended up with The Gossip as one of my guests. I don't have the exact wording in front of me but IIRC the power states that you have to declare (when placing the gossip) one of the guests that is not in your possession. If that guest is seated during the round you flip over the gossip (presumably she's embarrassed at having been caught talking about the named guest), otherwise her point value doubles.
So just to confirm:
- you need to have memorized at least one card that you passed up in the draft
- since you are announcing that card another player who has the card now knows they can nullify your gossip if they play that card
- so you are gambling that the card you named has been discarded at the start of the round
And to clairfy:
- if you don't remember any other cards or don't want to declare a card, can tou pass and cancel the power? If you literally don't remember any what do you do?
Ps neat game. Seems like it can be played as a quick breezy game or played in a super brain burny way by someone who can quickly memorize cards.
I was a god, Valeria. I found it...beneath me.
I think you've pretty much got it. The only bit I would add is that (if you know all of the cards) you could gamble and name a card that was not in the draft at all (remaining cards after each player is dealt four) OR a card that another player has tabled, since tabling a card is not the same as having them seated on their side of the table.
Unfortunately, not remembering a card name is something I didn't consider. A card must be named when The Gossip is played though. I don't know how loose your group is with rules wording, but I would say that if they can't remember an exact card name and the group is fine with it, they could give a description of one they remember based on the art or ability? Everyone would have to be in agreement though on what card is meant by the description, otherwise I could foresee some arguments or misunderstandings.
As you play more games this should be less of an issue, but for your first few games or for games with new players would it be possible to keep a list on a separate sheet of paper? I know that isn't the best answer, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head
Thank you for the kind words! I'm pretty proud of the way the game has turned out
