This is a follow up to a thread where I asked for recommendations for 3-4 players.
Everyone came up with some fantastic games and I bought Medina
Thank you very much!
You guys are the best!

Now I would love some of your expert suggestions for good lookers for 2-3p.
There are a lot of beautiful looking games out there.
I was interested to see which ones really stood out and played well in peoples' collections especially with 2-3 players, that they would recommend using these criteria;

Beautiful gameboard and artwork on components.
Short rules learning curve.
Simple ,smooth ,elegant gameplay.
Enough theme to help us get into it.
Light to medium complexity.
Don't mind mixing it up with each other.

No party games,co-ops,zombies, horror or dexterity games, please!

I guess that we run the light to medium end of the strategy / tactical game scale.

Thanks again for being so helpful!

Five Tribes ticks most of your boxes, if not all of them. It's beautiful, simple to learn, not so easy to master, plays great with 2 players and is still fun (even if not as interesting for me due to being more chaotic and less skill-based) with 3-4 players.

Castles of Mad King Ludwig and Quadropolis could also be great options. For them, 3-4 players is probably the sweet spot, but 2 players is still fine.

Quadropolis immediately sprung to mind - it looks great, is very easy to learn and has moderate strategic depth (plus an Expert variation of the game when you want to move beyond the Classic one), and plays really well at all player counts.

Imo Splendor is enhanced by using this playmat: https://www.amazon.com/Splendor-Gaming-Board-Game-Playmat/dp...
and we play Century: Spice Road on its own gorgeous playmat: https://www.planbgames.com/en/home/16-century-playmat.html

Fwiw Century: Golem Edition is an alternative version that has a beautiful playmat as well. https://www.planbgames.com/en/century/27-century-golem-playm...

ETA - I love the look and game design of Azul but wonder if I'd think it's *too* mean for 2P...might be perfect for you though.

Perhaps check out The King Is Dead. It should fit all your criteria.

I think Lanterns ticks all your boxes. Not a ton of theme, but gorgeous components and since you get stuff on everyone else's turns, as well as your own, it keeps everyone engaged. Plays nicely with 2, 3, or 4.

That's a perfect description of Takenoko. Ideal with three players. Also good with just two.
