So I have a few (as in less than 20 (I think...)) magazine games. They are all at least sleeved, with counters in bags, a couple not yet punched.

I'd like to dress them up, to give them the same shelf presence as all the "real" games (the ones in boxes ), in addition to enhancing their preservation and organization.

To do that, I'd like to get them into counter trays, and boxes of some kind. I'd dress the boxes up with labels.

I know binders are a popular option, and if I had a huge collection of them, I'd probably go there, but since I only have a few, and don't anticipate adding too many more mag games, I can afford to do better.

.... if I could find the right kind of box at a reasonable quantity and price!

For instance, "literature" or "document" mailers like these:

... or these:

... can be purchased for as little as 65¢ each, but everywhere I find them, they are sold in qtys of 50! I don't need fifty anytime soon, if ever ... and these boxes get kinda ratty after much opening and closing.

Blank, lidded, game boxes would be great, but I can't find them any less than 3" deep—only need 1.5" for a counter tray and a magazine—and I imagine they would be several dollars a piece.

Any suggestions? Other solutions? How are you storing your magazine games that are "keepers"?

From personal experience:

50 of these "mailers" get very, very quickly filled with magazine and folio games.... I have an entire shelf of them by now... whistle

While they do wear out if you play some games frequently they are very cheap to replace. For me this has worked better than my older storage solutions, especially if you want to keep the counters neatly sorted in a tray.

I buy blank boxes from GMT Games or games@gamesurplus.com.

Here's an example of the results:

Thanks Mr. Weiler, I imagine that I will ended up with these ... the excess can just hang out with the shipping supplies, the paper dump, etc

Nicely done! Noble Knight carries them too, others as well .... but $7 a piece, for the 2" version ... that has to add up. Amazon used to carry them (in 3"), for a bit less ... Starting to look like suck it up and go with mailers, or get into the boxmaking business

I use die cut document/magazine boxes similar to what the OP mentioned, to store my punched magazine wargames. Dimensions of the box interior are: 12x9x2 (listed as die-cut or "D/C" on product page)

I can usually squeeze in two magazine wargames (1 full counter sheet, 1 full size map) and two counter trays in one of these boxes.

The boxes are about $1 CAD at Packaging World in North York:

OP - do you have a link to your document mailers 65 cents each for 50 at a time on a site? Because that would serve me well, myself...

The 65¢ price was at Amazon, they had a bundle of 50, 8.75 x 11.125" x 2, for $31.22, a couple days ago.

https://www.amazon.com/Aviditi-MFL1182-Corrugated-Deluxe-Lit...

I see at this moment they are $40.77.

Brown is a buck cheaper:
https://www.amazon.com/Aviditi-M1182K-Corrugated-Literature-...

... and those are a pretty tight size, wouldn't fit larger mags, and I think a lot of counter trays would also be too big.

ULINE has the perfect sizes, and pretty great prices (~85¢ ea), but their shipping is quite dear...$15 to ship 1 bundle, and I'm only 1 state over!

https://www.uline.com/Product/Detail/S-12641/Literature-Mail...

https://www.uline.com/Product/Detail/S-275/Literature-Mailer...

... hey, if you buy 1,000, they're only 50cents each!
How bout I buy the thousand, then sell them to all of you for 75¢ each

Facing the same issues, I found some plastic storage boxes at the local Walmart. They are slightly bigger than 8.5 x 11 and have clips. Big enough to hold a small three ring binder. Plenty of space for rules and counters and maps. I think they are Sterilite brand, but not sure about that. Cost about $4. They stack as well.

Thanks, that works. Amazon shipping doesn't cost anything extra for me (Prime etc).

Yes, surprisingly clever!
Far too many. I keep magazine games and other ziplocks in them.

Walmart has the identical box in your picture of thinner material in the party section for a little over a dollar apiece, I think they are marked as cake boxes or something similar. I picked up a couple for this exact reason so I could stack them with my regular boxed games.

Those boxes at Legion are beautiful, and at 1.5", perfect depth, but they might not fit a GMT tray ... they are the same size as the box!

Also ... $5/ea ... and, worst of all, they don't seem to be for sale atm, unless my browser is just having funsies w/me ... I see a wishlist button but no means to buy!

Telescoping boxes, white, gloss, 11 1/2 x 9 x 1 1/4, $2.67ea, min of 30 ...
http://www.usbox.com/Boxes/Economy-White-Gloss-Photo-Boxes/0...

$96 with shipping for 30 of them.

Beautiful archival folio boxes, metal reinforced corners, 9x12x1.75", a steal at "only" $8.95ea, when you buy 10 or more!
https://www.printfile.com/me9x12-gray-folio.aspx
https://www.printfile.com/me9x12-white-folio.aspx

That site has a lot of fantastic option ... not cheap, but if you have something special to store, check em out.

Back on the trail .... maybe this is THE ONE:

White Corrugated Document Mailers, 11-3/4" x 10-3/4" x 2-1/4", 25pcs, $15.39 ...!!!
https://www.staples.com/White-Corrugated-Document-Mailers-11...

Not the perfect size, a little too wide and deeper than I'd like, but hot damn the qty and price are right....

Wait, sorry, nvm, they only pretend to want to sell them to you. Suddenly out of stock if you try to buy. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh.

Yet another option, for anyone wanting to be weird about it ... clear plastic boxes:

8 5/8" x 1" x 11 1/8" Crystal Clear Boxes® (25 Pieces) ... $34.25
https://www.clearbags.com/8-5-8-x-1-x-11-1-8-crystal-clear-b...

That's $1.37 each and goes as low as 65¢ a pop ... if you buy 5,000

1" deep is too shallow for some games .... they have only 1 size deeper, and that's 11" x 14" x 2", which is heavier-walled, but also too big.

I think these would be a fiddly nightmare and one of my priorities is preventing fading ... these aren't good for that. But the site has a ton of sizes, most small, maybe some options for deck, dice, chit storage in there somewhere. Small component boxes that would live inside the main game boxes.

For instance ... potential counter tray options:

More interesting component storage options ...
http://www.shoppopdisplays.com/display-boxes-and-cases/boxes...

Their "mini organizers" are 2" x 2" x 3/4", $1.20 each, min of 16. In a variety of colors to boot.

I'm sure the perfect game boxes are around somewhere...

OK, finally, this is IT!

Photo boxes, print boxes, jewelry presentation boxes, 2pc gift boxes, so many of'em so close and yet so far ... and then I found these:

From Wildcat Wholesale ... two great lookin' options!

1. 12-1/16" x 9-7/16" x 1-1/8" Candy Boxes ... $1.49ea, min/multiples of 25
Available in matte kraft, gloss white, gloss black, gloss red, gloss gold
http://www.wildcatwholesale.com/ProductCart/pc/viewCategorie...

"Candy and candy cups not included" (awwww, mannnnnn.....)

2. 9-1/4" x 11-1/2" x 1" Photo Boxes, $2.21ea, min/multiples of 15
Available in matte kraft, matte white, or black leatherette (like a game board )
http://www.wildcatwholesale.com/ProductCart/pc/viewCategorie...

Wildcat only offers UPS shipping, which will increase the cost significantly (about +50% delivered to my house), but as always with UPS you can save 20-30% on shipping by having it delivered to a business.

I know these aren't as thick or as sturdily constructed as the GMT boxes, and they aren't as deep as I would like, but even after the shipping, I think they are an all-around great compromise. Telescoping boxes, good quality, a smaller min qty, and reasonable unit costs.

[I'll just leave all this for reference and stop spamming the thread now!]

Okay, it seems like you have your heart set on boxes but...

You may find that they quickly take up a lot of space.

I use a plastic bin that has ridges on the end so it holds hanging file folders. Each game in a zip-lock bag, placed in a labeled hanger. Quite a few don't take up much room.

I'm not at home this week so can't send a picture but GM me if you want more details.

unless you've got a lot of space to fill, those blank boxes/mailers quickly take up a lot of space, as noted above. I still have a couple, but gave up on those quickly and now use the Mead 35250 Red Letter Wallet. Perfect size, expandable, fully enclosed, and secure with a built-in stretch cord. Write on the outside, or get geeky like me and sticker-label them:

My wife found these at the Daiso store:

http://www.daisojapan.com/p-27463-a4-document-case-937-x-125...

For my money they are the best solution. They are deep enough to hold more than one magazine game and/or counter tray. They are very sturdy. They are transparent which makes it easy to tell what’s inside at a glance (which I find convenient as I acquire more and more magazine games). The only downside as I see it is that they may be hard to find. Ultimately, my wife ordered in bulk. She ordered a box of 24 for $75 plus shipping. It worked out to be about $4 each (including shipping). Daiso has other sizes and styles available as well.

Cheers and Merry Christmas!

Contact him via Geekmail. I bought a dozen from him earlier this year. I was able to avoid shipping expenses because we're local to each other. At the time he still had more and the box quality is excellent.
