The House appears to be gearing up to push a bill that funds the military for a full year, while leaving other stopgap measures temporary (until Jan 19). But Senate Dems are against this. Plus, they appear to be pushing for their own items in the bill, namely resolving the DACA issue, CHIP funding, and helping to keep Obamacare stabilized (a promise the Pubs made to Susan Collins for her tax bill vote). It could get ugly, and quickly, since they only have until Friday to pass this bill, to prevent a government shutdown.

Ah, interesting times we are in. Look to see alot of posturing, namecalling, and negotiations behind the scene as this workd itself through Congress.

Make repealing the tax bill a part of the funding bill. Hilarity ensues.

The Democrats don't know how to play hardball. Unfortunately, the Republicans do, and are quite good at it.

They better learn if they want to save our democracy.

And they better learn to put differences aside and act as a group on the big issues and votes.

Ah, the spectacle of a "government shutdown." If it happens, they will make sure to close public access to national parks and the Washington Monument while abruptly cutting off cheap and well-liked minor convenience services in order to extort the public into assenting to their massive, wasteful spending, which will continue unabated, "shutdown" or no.

"Government shutdown" is almost as bogus as "tax reform."

Repubs, feeling the heat of the deadline (and their desire to go on Christmas Break), giving up on some measures that they had hoped to squeak thru, but opposition within their own rank and file prevents this.

CHIP funding still in question, as is the fate of DACA people, as well as stabilization subsidies for ObamaCare. Look for Collins to be miffed if she does not get the subsidies, which were promised to her in exchange for her 'YES' vote on taxes.

I think Collins was foolish to not get what she wanted in hand. Whatever promises were made to her, who can deliver both the House and Senate votes? No one.
