So, with McDonald's set to introduce the "McVegan" burger in Sweeden and Finland in the next few weeks, I have a question to ask all the vegans out there:

Is this McGross because it is McDonald's, or is this McGross because it is vegan?

Are they going to have a separate grill to cook these on?

Given how disgusting McD's burgers already taste, I can only presume a truly vegan alternative would be a step up.

A friend took a short-order cook job for a local tavern in the mid-eighties. It was two weeks of serving "the tastiest veggie-burgers in town" before the boss told him not to cook those in the meat drippings on the flat-top. Sales plummetted for the now microwaved veggie-burgers.

Maybe they'll deep fry it in the oil they use for potatoes.

Don't they use the same oil for the Chicken Nuggets, though?

(I worked at Wendy's in high school, and while I could be remembering wrong, I'm pretty sure we used the same oil for our fries and nuggets).

I can't see how this is going to be a great seller. My personal experience with Vegans is that they stand for animal rights and don't support things that lead to cruelty or death of animals. McDonalds is still going to be selling millions of burgers so I would think a Vegan would be still be opposed to eating there on moral grounds.

But I am not a Vegan so I can't say for sure.

this. For most of my vegan acquaintances, its political/cause based.

Burger king has had a veggie burger for a while. Seems like leaving money on the table by not having a vegetarian option on your menu.

Vegetarian and Vegan very different. Vegans are Vegetarians, but not all Vegetarians are Vegan. There are a lot of reasons that a person might be vegetarian that doesn't have a conflict of interest with McDonald's ethics. I think MOST Vegans would.

As I vegan I am happy when places add vegan options. I wouldn't see it as supporting animal cruelty if McDonalds sold a bunch of these, particularly if the person ordering would otherwise have bought whatever the healthiest meat option was. The ideal result would be that they sold so many of these things that it became their core business and they phased out the animal-based stuff. :p

Was just making a joke. I don't need any of those above reasons. I don't think eating meat is wrong, my religion doesn't say eating meat is wrong (and in fact specifically states that it is okay) and I like eating meat.

No worries, no offence taken. I have heard that joke every day for the last twentysomething years, though.

If we (vegans) limited ourselves to places that didn't serve any animal products, we'd have very few places to eat (or buy groceries).

I'd probably at least give it a try.

I am an omnivore and I find these thousandfold repeated unoriginal jokes very embarassing for my kind. Some of them were funny the first time around, but none of them are anymore.

In any internet conversation that involves both veggies and meat eaters, you'll get a ton more of those than you get of vegetarian "preaching", which is just telling.

Love the bingo card for that reason, I'll save it for future reference.

Yeah, because every vegan I know has just been chomping at the bit to wolf down a McDonald's burger.
