11.2 Leader Destroyed lists the several things done to "promote" the Wingman, but one thing it does not specify is whether or not the promoted wingman (new Leader) remains in the same relative position or starts out as neutral.

Did I miss a rule? Any thoughts?

Well, this is vexing! The newly-promoted Leader is Neutral, which should have been in paragraph (f) of 11.2 below the Design Note. Shucks and other comments...

Unfortunately, the only place this is stated explicitly is in the Extended Example of Play 14.6.2.

Thanks!

As a rules editor, I have a love/hate relationship with rules but admit that as a gamer I hardly ever read examples of play.

Thanks again for the answer. I will add that we decided, based on our general feel for the game, to play it so that the new Leader is Neutral.

Chris will get the joke, or anyone who reads the Wild Blue Yonder credits.

During our first game this came up and I noticed the Example, so I said "I guess that's the rule." Glad to see it was already answered.
