Now, and when it first went up

It started dropping needles soon after it was put in place, on December 8th.

That's what you get when you cheap out. It cost 48,000 euros ($57,000) to buy and transport it from South Tyrol, an Italian Alpine region. wow

Apparently the tree over at the Vatican, imported from Poland, is looking mighty good and healthy. laugh

London's Christmas tree in Trafalgar Square is free - an annual gift from the people of Norway. Free, but beyond price.

Indeed.
My Uncle, who worked for the Forestry Commission, had for several years the job of checking that it was not bringing-in any disease or pests.
Yes, you /do/ look a gift horse in the mouth!

Cool! My father-in-law was his city's tree warden (an elected office!). I wish he were alive to tell him about that.

The Vatican has a Christmas tree?
That seems wrong some how. You'd think they'd focus on the christian aspects of the festival and shun the paganism/consumerism.

Yeah that was my first thought.

RSP:

Spoiler (click to reveal)
Although a Christmas tree is arguably less pagan than eating the flesh and drinking the blood of the dying regenerative fertility god.
