Paul Strong has made available a longer version of his study of the Western Approaches Tactical Unit, which did some of the most consequential operational wargaming of WWII. It's a fascinating story (and especially regarding the critical role of women wargamers in WATU, who--much like the female code-breakers of Bletchley Park--faded into classified obscurity after the war).

It may be the best thing you've read on the history of wargaming all year.

Fascinating. A really good read on the real world use of wargames.

Volunteers from the UK Defence Science and Technology Laboratory, the Royal Navy Maritime Warfare Center, and PAXsims will be recreating a WATU convoy escort wargame at the Western Approaches war museum in Liverpool on 8 September 2018.

I am looking for a copy of "Western Approaches Convoy Instructions," aka WACI. This was the manual Western Approaches Command produced for all escorts. There are some Canadian libraries that have a copy, but I am hoping someone might have a scan.

Cheers
Geoff
