Breaking story, but interesting, combined with the other one recently, probably a sign that life is tough, and perhaps getting tougher, for the common man in North Korea.

They seriously need to put up signs, "The next 100 defectors will be given free medical care and decent food". and billboards with live video feeds of downtown seoul as well as K-dramas. Actually forget seoul. Put on "D-Day" and a couple other decent k-dramas 24/7.

Unfortunately, North Korean defectors are not treated all that kindly by the people of the South. They face heavy discrimination for, of all things, their accent, which makes them sound like hillbilly rubes to the southerners. They're instantly recognizable and elicit remarkably little sympathy. They mostly end up unemployed and depressed.

That is really dumb on the part of south korea.

They should provide defectors years of education before releasing them into society.

A few ended up so disillusioned that they actually re-defected to the North, where they were of course welcomed back by a crowing regime. "See, these folks visited the Western puppet regime in the south and it ain't shit!"

Oddly enough, this makes it just as difficult for South Koreans to infiltrate the North as intelligence assets, that might very well give the Western World valuable information on a very closed, secretive regime. Apparently, they are very easily recognizable, and hence, it's just not done.
