Tonight I played my first game of Pirates Cove along with another first timer so neither of us had any experience with the game. When we encountered the Flying Dutchman we saw that it can recover up to 2 Hull Points per round to a maximum value of 5. What determines how many points the Dutchman recovers each round? Is it simply "current hull point value +2, up to 5 points cap"? Or is there something we missed that allows for 0, 1, or 2 points recovery? To us, it seemed like there should be a mechanic that allows for a variable amount of recovery. Otherwise, if you are only hitting with two cannons and get to hits, the ship would recover 2 points every time thereby making the ship undefeatable.

When the dutchman turn comes, make it recover 2 hull points. So if it had 1 (resp 2, 3), make it 3 (resp 4, 5). If it had 4 or 5, make it 5 because it cannot get more.

So yes, since it recovers 2 points each turn, you need to deal it more than 2 damages each turn. Fight cards, parrots, or coming there with friend pirates, does help a lot for this.
