It's actually not an awesome deal or even a deal at all you can walk into Target or Barnes & Noble and get Santorini for the same price (MSRP of the new version is 29.99) and have been able to do so for months now. Additionally both Target / Barnes & Noble have 20%+ off sales or mass coupons in effect right now so you can get it much cheaper by visiting either brick and mortar store.

Remember this is NOT The original version of Santorini this is the Spinmaster reprint which is similar but has fewer components and some argue lower qualtity.

Target: https://www.target.com/p/santorini-strategy-based-board-game...

Barnes & Noble: https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/toys-games-santorini-game/3...
- 25% in store coupon https://www.barnesandnoble.com/promos/bn-promo.jsp?cid=3bec3... = $22.5

Where are you seeing that there are differences?

This is the only thing I could find and it indicated otherwise: https://boardgamegeek.com/article/24591598#24591598

Am I missing something?

You are correct that the deal on Santorini on Amazon is not awesome.

I think some people have roughly cut God cards. I checked mine when I received it and they were clean cuts. There was also an issue with the glue in some copies not being clean or having what looked like water damage on the main board.

From what I recall the only major change between the original and Spinmaster is that the base water board is no longer present in the Spinmaster one.

+ Some also feel the Golden Fleece expansion is not compatible due to the differences in Cardstock ?

I'll have to check. I have that as well but I am also a serial sleever so I never paid attention to it.

The cardstock is different, but it is still compatible as you don't shuffle the cards together. Even if you did it's not that big of a difference, or if it annoys too much they can always be sleeved.

I was considering Sentient, but looked at the contents of the box. Even at $35, it doesn't seem like a good value for what you get... I know it gets great reviews, but it's 60 cards, 20 dice and some boards and tokens? Sounds like a $24.99 game to me.

This is the exact reason why I haven't bought it yet either!

Sentient is pretty fun. It is probably a fair value compared to other games. The components are good quality. I agree though I would probably be more apt to buy it at sub $30.

Sentient is a lot of fun. Glad my FLGS has a demo copy I can play because it really is overpriced. Id consider it for under $30.

Don't let anyone steer you away from the new edition of Santorini. It's true that this isn't a great deal now that the MSRP is lower but the Ocean board they got rid of just takes up extra table space and the new smaller box is a positive not a negative. (less space on table, shelf, and in game bag)

Apart from the cards which are a bit thinner the rest of the components are in no way inferior.

As Robert notes above, if you're wanting to use the Golden Fleece expansion you just need to spend a couple of bucks on sleeves.

I already own the Roxley but one of these days I'll grab the Spinmaster at 50% off and will happily sell/trade the Roxley off at that point.

I was thinking about getting it just for the dice..

This. Sold my non-kickstarter Roxley version with expansion a while back for $85. Rebought the spinmaster and expansion for $32. Plays the same, looks the same, gathers dust the same.
