Was GMT going to publish a follow-up to this?

Didn’t get enough orders. Ended up being turned back over to Victory Point Games. Too bad because they made a nice edition of those battles.

There were some preliminary discussions about doing a follow-up boxed set of four more Napoleonic-20 games (tentatively called "Rising Glory"). That set would have included games on the battles of Austerlitz, Jena, Eylau, and Wagram. The proposal for the game was listed on GMT's P500 program for a bit over a year, and actually went over the 500 mark, but ultimately GMT chose to back out of the arrangement. VPG has since released the Jena and Eylau games as "Prussia 20," and is working on re-releasing the Austerlitz game as part of a quad-pack (with games on Ulm, Caldiero, and an updated version of Albion20).

Actually, it did. Had 512 subscribers when the decision to cancel was made.

Very good to hear. Do we have a rough release date?

Austerlitz and Caldiero are done with development/testing. Designer Kim Meints is getting the prototype for Ulm ready for submission (which was delayed for several months because the Austrian OOB during that campaign is very confused, so we brought in noted Napoleonic historian Jack Gill to help sort it out). Once we're done with Ulm then I'll be re-working Albion, and putting together the rules for a sort of 1805 mini-campaign linking the four games together. No firm timeframe for release, but I'm hoping to have them submitted for art workup by the end of summer next year.

Was the number not climbing fast enough? Regardless of publisher, these VPG Napoleonic games are quite fun and easy to play.

It was a combination of factors, but basically the main issue was that GMT had (at that time) a bunch of titles that had all cleared their P500 hurdles with a resulting production backlog which meant that it would probably have been at least another year before 'Rising Glory' saw print, and VPG wanted to get the game(s) out to fans sooner rather than later. Gene and Alan had an amicable chat and agreed that everyone would be best served if VPG released the games under their own trademark.

Gene Billingsley and GMT were absolutely great to work with right down the line. Currently, Lance and I are pondering the future of the Nappy 20 series now that we are also printing games overseas as the other publishers do. That should work to the player's advantage.
