We have been playing for over a year now and we are looking for an experience methodology from game to game. We have looked at posts here and the ideas are great but felt like too much administration for us.
The current idea that we are kicking around is to use the skill cards
( as level system. Upon successfully completing a mission each surviving character draws a card and adds it to there collection.

Character keeps the card from game to game.

Before the next game the character will choose the number of cards based on the difficulty (1 = Easy; 2 - Medium; 3 - Hard; 4 = Very Hard) of the mission. Note: If character has less then the number of cards specified they use what they have.

These cards should be laid face up in front of the character board.
Each card/skill can be used once during the game by the character.
Upon being used the card should be flipped over to show it has been used.

What we are still discussing is should there be one set of skill cards that everyone draws from or should each character have their own decks.

If one deck is used then not two character could have the same extra skills and when the skills cards run out the characters are maxed out.

If individual decks are used then we need to track each deck and which one belongs to what character but means that it will take longer to max out the characters.

Would love the hear what people think of this and any ideas to make it better?

I vote for 1 deck but you could add extra doubles (or triples) of certain cards so players can play what style their hero is best for without having to haggle with other players for the skill.

What about weapons and spells? I thought about using experience points you gain during the scenario as maintenance points you need to use to repair/sharpen/ect your equipment in order to keep it for next adventure. OF course you'd need to figure out how much it costs to do that while keeping it simple. Spells need to be rewritten on scrolls or rememorized which can also cost your experience points. When you start a new scenario you reset your unspent experience to 0.
