1. You start the game with two hoplites. Is the only way to put more on the board, if you do not control a city, with the Prepare special action? If there are monsters near you at the start, this could be devastating.
2.
Does the King of Kings win condition only work for the first temple? We had a situation in which a second monument was completed and no one controlled the first monument.

1.Yes, at the beginning of the game Prepare is your main "source" of Hoplites. Some Quest rewards let you recruit Hoplites and there is also Athena Monument, if someone builds a 2+ level of it.
Generally starting in a region with/near a Monster always comes with a risk. But sometimes it can pay off!

2.It only counts for the Monument that was fully built FIRST. In case control of this region is lost, after 3 turns have passed, the player who regains control of it first wins.

Control can't be lost completely. After it is taken over, one player or another will always control the region. Or is there a way to just remove control tokens and turn a region neutral?
In the OP's game they seem to have build a monument in a region no player ever went to.

Yup control can't be lost completely. In earlier version it was possible with Myth cards) but now there is no chances for that

But everything else is correct - the first player to control the terrain after 3rd turn to take over monument instantly win. But I would say it is extremely rare moment in the game

Can you use the Build Monument special action to add a level to any monument on the board? Including:

*A region you control
*A region someone else presently controls
*A region controlled by no player

Thank you for getting back so quickly. We have played twice (though, not correctly, it seems) and love this game. Really looking forward to the stretch goals arriving - looked again last night and forgot how many there were!
