Got this game for Christmas, and I'm really enjoying it so far.

I've started the "Hardest Days Scenario" and have a question about secion 6.1, Luftflotte Availability limt.

Due to some...interesting...event card draws, I ended up with about four raids in the 0800 turn, since all of my over target events had a time advance of 0. Luftflotte 2 now has NO fighters of any type available.

Reading section 6.1, having les then two full fighter Gruppen means that all major raids are treated as minor. Also, looking at the force cards, there are at least some where a bomber is in the first slot. Lastly, the rules say that if you can not substitute for a Gruppen in a slot, you stop selecting for the raid at that point, and proceed.

Putting that all together, taken literally, means that with no fighters available, it is possible for Luftflotte 2 to mount a minor raid consisting of a single, unsescorted bomber!

Is this correct? Is this just a rare enough occurance that it is not addressed in the rules, specifically?

Realistically, it seems I should just skip over all the Luftflotte 2 target cards, and only allow Luftflotte 3 to attack until there are fighters available in Luftflotte 2. This game seems hard enough that I will not necessarily turn down VPs for unescorted fighters, but I was wondering...

Welcome to a great game, you will really enjoy it.

A raid is a raid - so if you only have one bomber then that is all you can use, as you have said from the rules.

As you say the game is hard enough as it is, so don't try to change the way it is meant to play.

I would strongly recommend that you look in the files section for Stuka Joe's excellent sequence of play cards as well - they are brilliant (in my opinion).

Thanks!

I did look at the sequence cards, and they are indeed awesome!

Should help a lot with the game.

Sometimes it works for you, sometimes not. Wait until you see that one unescorted bomber group waltz all the way to the target without a care in the world pounding your airfield, disrupting your ground ops, and costing you a Hurricane or Spitfire replacement point (or two) while you are unable to respond with anything at all because everyone is rearming, landing, in the in-flight box, or patrolling out of range. Then you won't feel so bad about shooting them down when you have the chance. In fact, you'll feel quite satisfied putting them in the heavy loss box.
