Step 5 "The adventures Appears"

It says shuffle the 6 adventure card's and deal 1 to each player.

So my interpretation of this wording is you get dealt a character(adventure) at random and are not allowed to choose which one you want to be.

Is that true? That you must be given a adventure at random and can't just choose who you want to be?

Unless you close your eyes it is kinda hard to even deal it out randomly as you can see what each card is on both sides.

Obviously it's a game and we can decide to do and play how ever we want but want to know if that is how most plp play the game and if that's how the game Creator intended it to be.

Random is how my family plays it. We will shuffle the adventurer cards under the table, or put the player pawns inside an opaque container and draw them that way.

I suppose playing random adventurers each time might be seen as keeping the challenge fresh each time you play, rather than letting groups fall back on to the same old tried and tested combination of roles every time they play.

But I encourage you to play however feels the most fun to you.

Maybe you might want to keep using a particular team until you win with that team then change it up. Maybe you just love one adventurer and that makes the game fun for you. Whatever you do I really hope you enjoy this game!

Not sure what the official rule on this is, but we play it both ways. Select them when we want the game a little easy, like with new players. Deal random, (Shuffle under table then deal round the table starting with the dealers left), when we want it a little more of a challenge.

We shuffle the adventurer cards under the table, and then deal them.

That is in line with the written rules, and IMO, it keeps the game a little more fresh and exciting by changing up who you play, or by presenting different challenges based on party make up, rather than just being the same all the time if everyone chooses their favorite.

We let people pick them every now and then, especially if they keep ending up with the same character.

This is what we do when we want random, but we will also allow folks (especially newcomers to the game) to pick a role instead.

If you want to pick randomly but have trouble with people being able to see the roles, use dice.

With a d6, reroll results of 6 for the 2nd player, reroll results of 5-6 for the 3rd player, & divide the result by 2 (round up) for the 4th player. It works better with a d12 & d10 if you have them.

How about shuffling the adventurer cards then having one player turn over the top two adventurer cards, keep one, pass the other card and the remainder of the adventurer cards to the next player. That player turns over the top card and chooses between the two cards passing the other card and the remaining adventurer cards to the next player, until all players have selected an adventurer.

Random with a choice.
