Does the banker pay in this scenario or not?

- The answer to a question was 1938.
- One of the marker boards had 1938 written on it.
- Nobody placed any bets on that 1938 answer.
- There were bets places on the next lower answer of 1936.

Does the banker pay on the slot with the 1936 answer?
Or nobody gets paid and everyone loses on the question?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Hi and Welcome to BGG!

FWIW you posted in the General forum and it's entirely possible people floating around here will know the answer but you could perhaps get an answer faster searching/posting in the forum specific to the game you're interested in.

Here's a link to the Wits & Wagers forum section, you'll find the forum link on each game's page.

The person who wrote 1938 would get the "correct answer" reward and that is it. The 1936 isn't correct so no one there gets anything. I am not sure of the total awarded...maybe ten. I have an older version of the game.

It is possible that no one gets anything when playing this game though it is rare. What people bet on doesn't change what the correct answer is.

Thanks for responding.

Our version of the game has the banker paying the winnings on
the the slot that contains the closest to the correct answer
without going over.

So we weren't sure what to do when
the directions didn't address the off chance someone had the
correct answer -- since the game seems to be designed
for rewarding both the trivia knowledge and the betting strategy
after all the potential answers are on the table.

I would play both. The person with the correct answer gets $300 and the person(s) who voted the next closest lower number gets rewarded too including the person who bet agaisnt himself if he were the next closest lower bet.

This is not correct. The only thing I wasn't sure about in my answer was how much should be awarded.

The formula is find out what the correct answer is. Closest without going over. That means an exactly correct answer would be the closest without going over. The person who wrote that answer gets an award which I believe is 10, but I am not sure. Anyone that bet on the answer would get the odds in winnings, but if no one bet on it the only person to get money would be whomever wrote the correct answer.
