This isn't a troll post. I mean this with sincerity. Donating money to a for-profit business is ludicrous. This site is a business, and a lucrative one at that. Stop giving them money. Donate to charities and help someone out. There are plenty of people out there who need the support. Pretty sure BGG doesn't since it's, you know, a BUSINESS.

13294 X 5 is 66470. You could do real good with that money.

BGG makes money by driving traffic to its site and displaying ads right? Additional funds from sales through the site too.

Well I don't want to see those ads, so by paying the site for my use directly I remove ads and that's a satisfactory business arrangement to me, it is not a charity, it's a membership cost.

To your point on money being spent elsewhere, I do not have a limited budget of 'charitable giving', giving $15 or $25 to BGG does not meaningfully limit my ability to 'donate' elsewhere.

Not sure if you really wanted to have a discussion but there you go.

This isn't a troll reply. I mean this with sincerity. Donating time to a for-profit business is ludicrous. This site is a business, and a lucrative one at that. Stop spending any time here or contributing any files, posts, images, reviews, session reports, videos, etc. Donate that time and effort to charities and help someone out. There are plenty of people out there who need the support. Pretty sure BGG doesn't since it's, you know, a BUSINESS.

Millions X millions of hours. You could do real good with that time.

I don't view it as a donation. I view it as a voluntary user-access fee. How is sending money to BGG different from sending money to your cable company or phone service provider? Those companies will shut off your service if you don't pay. With BGG, it's voluntary. BGG won't shut you off if you don't pay.

Nope, and that would be illegal in the US.

This is a troll post. You should start a website where you tell people what is and isn't stupid. I would be interested in donating to such a website.

I give my mail carrier some money every Christmas for a job well done through the year ... it's a small courtesy just the same as donating here. Realistically, can you imagine a world where suddenly BGG was just ... gone?

Well since that's illegal, that's a totally different matter.

Generally speaking, if you have to begin your post with "this is not a troll post" then, it probably is . To answer your question, I donate because I get a ridiculous return on my investment--in my opinion--for the paltry amount of money I spend on it. Yeah, BGG is a business, but I'm gonna guess the people that run it aren't all driving Lamborghinis, and if a few $$ helps to keep the lights on, or even make it MORE profitable than it already is, cool. And if they ARE driving Lamborghinis, that's friggin' awesome!

$15 a year is worth it, when I consider how much money I save by being able to get info on board games before I buy them.

I like BGG. I don't buy ad space from them. I don't buy things from their store very often (maybe once every few years). I don't like seeing advertisements. I like tipping GG to folks and helping new users get their first avatar with GG donations. So, I give them some money to support said habit.

I also charitably contribute to a number of charities that my family and I select each year. BGG is more akin to a website subscription than charitable giving.

Who are you to assume where I spend my hard earned money?

In 2017 I spent at least 10-15 hours serving meals to the homeless, baking them sweets, and treating them like humans. At the hourly rate I get paid at my work, that's 10 times more then what I dontated to BGG. I spent triple what I donated to BGG to buy Thanksgiving meal, Christmas gifts, and Christmas meal for a family in need in my town.

In the end it's not any of your business how I spend my money. If I want to donate some of it to this site for being an invaluable tool and social hub for my favorite hobby, then I'm going to. It's like donating money to your local library or local church for providing a service that you can't get elsewhere.

Once I have given money, it's not mine any more. I don't get to have control over how it's distributed among the staff. If I have some kind of moral issues with the restaurant/owner, I wouldn't use their services in the first place.

Sure, I could eat my tasty dinner and then choose not to tip at all, but I like to think that I'm not such a cheap SOB that I benefit from other people's hard work and give nothing in return.

Just so you know, the time you spent creating this account and posting this sad, trolling message wasn't completely wasted, it did remind me to contribute. Thanks for that!

Yes, yes it is. And by a sock puppet no less. How many fake accounts did you create in 2009 just to be able to come out of the slime to post one comment eight years later? I'm sure you save a different puppet for a nice trolling every year. I'm thankful BGG shows profile information. Your's shows you to be as empty as the content of your posting.
