"If everybody is thinking alike, then somebody isn't thinking."
1) Does Ponce de Leon supposed to have an Expedition Card?
2) Does it cost Leadership Points to "Land on a Coast"?
3) What is the purpose of battle? Is it simply to restrict or eliminate a competitor from exploring and settling limited areas of Florida? What about granting Victory Points for winning (+2) battles and subtracting (-2) points for losing battles?
Thanks for trying this substandard game. It was (and still is) a painful disappointment. Please excuse any memory lapses because I haven't looked at this item in years.
#1 -- No. Ponce de Leon should always be first.
#2 -- No.
#3 -- Yes, the purpose of a battle between Europeans is elimination of a competitor. The tribal warriors normally preferred to avoid resistance to the Spanish if the expedition would just move on to the next tribe's domain. Tribal warriors did cooperate with the French in some conflict situations.
VPs for individual battles wouldn't fit the theme. Since a single "phase" can represent an explorer's entire career ephemeral glory points (or whatever) would pale in comparison to finding new lands or establishing a viable colony. It is all about the Big Picture.
