Yes, for the best experience maybe is true, but you can enjoy the game even with 2 players, only some more work to do (2 factions each, instead of 1).

I enjoy the entire series more with each player having one faction. But I've played Vikings more with just 2 and the games have all been interesting.

I have playd both 2 and 4 players and yes it's more intresting to discuss different tactics with another player, but you can do as you please with just 2 players. I think it is a great 2 player game.

I have heard from some people that it's best played 2-player and from others that it's best with four.

I have played it several times with 2, 3, and 4 players and I find each of them rewarding, but prefer 2 and 4 over three.

It works great as a 2-player game. Four players (team play) is rewarding for completely different reasons.

Most of my plays of 878, 1754 and 1775 are with two, as I have other games that need four, so get played instead when I have four. However, when they were new and I wanted to play asap, I did play them 3 or 4. They are good games to have in your collection.

Wow everyone is all over the place with favorite player counts. I have to say I prefer the 2 and 3 player dynamic much more than the 4. I feel like the 4 player game is boring for the Berserker player, but to each their own.

My favorite is the two player game because everyone is always very involved with what is going on in the game.

Have not played this one (looking into it), but have played 1775 easily solo as well. Great fun!
