My wife and I have been playing with three characters (Medic, Generalist, Scientist) And just finished June. We have completely ignored the whole military aspect and have only lost once back in March. I really want to keep the same three people for as long as possible but June had COdA (Black) spread to three outside cities and a few inside are on the brink of fallen. Should I change Generalist for someone able to pull figures or set blocks, or can I push through with what I have?

Re: Can I keep ignoring this aspect?
My wife and I played with 2 characters (Medic and Quarantine Specialist for most of the game) and we did all right with that. It seems like you're going to need *some* way to control the COdA disease though (I guess you can quarantine 'manually', but that is tricky to pull off.

The quarantine specialist was quite effective in our games. Perhaps you should bring her in?

Re: Can I keep ignoring this aspect?
It definitely became tricky this last game; dodging in and out of black to not accrue scars, praying to not infect again. I suppose it's time to put generalist (Rey) away. RIP, I'll miss that 5th action for sure.

Re: Can I keep ignoring this aspect?
We found the shine came off the Scientist as the campaign progressed - yes, curing with fewer cards is nice, but we were having to play longer to get other objectives done anyway, and with at least two upgrades to each non-C0dA disease, you've got that extra round to get the cures assembled before running out of cards. And level 3 positive mutations mean most characters cure those diseases at base-game Scientist levels anyway.

For dealing with Faded, the Quarantine Specialist can quarantine remotely once per turn, and she can sit in C0dA country safely provided she has a quarantine marker down on an empty city. Or the Colonel can actually "treat" Faded. Or the Soldier is immune to Faded - and recycling certain equipment can clear Faded rapidly too.

In general, I strongly advocate for keeping your team flexible and varied rather than sticking with the same lineup for most of the year - for example, to get the 6 military bases objective, subbing in the Operations Expert for a few games can get you 6 permanent military bases sited wherever you like, and give you a fast-travel network for military characters (and whoever gets the Veteran upgrade). And something comes up in July that a specific character is very good with too.

I thought level three mutation was nice with the Scientist because I only needed three cards to cure, but I see what you mean. Curing is only one objective. We haven't even laid the bases objective out yet. Seemed like a lot of movement and actions and wasn't usable with our characters anyways. Maybe I'll rethink that when we bring the specialist in.

As far as I understood it doesn't matter if the city is empty of figures or not, nothing can remove that marker from the city she's waiting in.

Sure, but she'll normally get a scar each turn she starts in the city.

What do you mean you haven't laid it out yet? All objectives are laid out together for the month at the start. You don't have to choose in advance which ones you are going to do, you can adapt to which ones seem more or less do-able as the scenario progresses.

I second the recommendation that the campaign and game as a whole is better played with you being adaptive with characters. I mean, with 3 players you're missing out on 2 characters from the start, never mind any more that are introduced.

As for questions as specific as yours, you're essentially asking for non-spoiler spoilers? Because you ask whether eventually you'll need to change up, but that in itself would be a spoiler. I'll leave my recommendation to simply being I believe changing characters as needed simply makes the game more fun, because you see more variety and each month can play out more differently than previous ones by investigating using different combinations.

Already completed the game. At he time we didn't have a military character so yes we really could skip that objective because we couldn't build those bases anyways. Obviously we had to change at least once but we rode the same few characters through most of the game and we enjoyed the connection we had with them, to each there own. We still ignored the military aspect as much as possible which helped in the end.

And that's a spoiler, too.

His thread title says spoilers, there's no need to spoiler tag anything in the thread itself...

I know that very well, but the text post mentions June. I'll err on the safer side

Any character can build any structure.

I was expecting semi spoiler answers so I didn't mention June in the title.

That's right my mistake. I believe my thinking at the time was without a military person, we couldn't use the bases for travel anyways so it was a lot of actions for something we couldn't all use even if we switched one person out. It's all moot now but I think our strategy really helped. Went
into Nov with only one military base and we finished with no fallen one collapsing and only lost two first half months (Unlucky March, too much to
do in Dec)

I'm sorry but if you click on a thread that says spoilers and doesn't give a month, you're the one at fault if you find spoilers you didn't want to see. The only think that OP loses by not putting June spoilers in the title, is that people who have only played up to June won't come in a weigh in on the topic, but that's fine, and its OP's loss (if anyone's).

The other advantage with military bases is you get to make all the cool military gear!
