I'm making a game of actions, with one of those actions being to harvest resources. The game is set on an alien planet, and we are just starting to set up a new outpost for humanity, our first on this world.

Anyway, the four resources that you can harvest as they are currently:

-Power
-Aqua
-Silica
-Nutrient

The wife tells me that Silica seems a little off - she didn't understand what it was. I couldn't use Earth, as we aren't on that planet, but I'm looking for something like Clay or Steel, basically something to help us build structures.

If anyone can help with naming, that would be really helpful. This is going to be for the 54 card design contest, so I really need this asap.

Many thanks.

You could go with elements.

I agree, Aqua seems out of place as well.

How about mud, terra firma, surface deposits (metals), rocks, gravel?

For Aqua, how about vapor?

No reason for Aqua as opposed to water. I originally had water. Stone is an ideal option, it's generic so can be used on any planet, and is understandable. One of the buildings is an extractor, so a stone extractor makes sense too.

I think silica is just fine.

Fuel, Water, Minerals, and Food could be basic options that everyone can understand.

Energy, Liquid, Silica, and Nutrients could also work if you want a slightly more scientific feel.

I’d keep silica if you are building those drying packs that say Do Not Eat. Otherwise I might go with quartz or minerals.

I have decided to go with Fuel, Water, Minerals and Food. Collectively they are materials.

Thanks for the help everyone. This is for the 54 card contest.

I know I'm too late, but just a thought on the material formerly known as silica: carbon. It is easily understood yet sounds scientific/futuristic.
