I suddenly have an urge to find games deeply inspired by Carcassonne's mechanics. The main reason is that Carcassonne is awesome! I'm curious to see that awesomeness expanded.

I know of two: "Isle of Skye" and "Carcosa".

Which ones do you know?

Thank you for your help laugh

There must have been a moment at the beginning, where we could have said no. Somehow we missed it. Well, we'll know better next time.

Kingdomino seems like it is - but that's just from reading about it, maybe those who have played it could comment?
It's a newer game that just won the SdJ, and has a sequel Queendomino.

A friend told me about those two but I never got to play. It seems to be loosely inspired by Carc. I just need to find the time xp

You might like Walnut Grove

It's got a Carcassonne-like element to it, but just as one part of the game.
It's a lot of fun, but it's one of those games where you have to do things (feed workers, heat homes etc) or else you get "punished" (a la Agricola) - if you enjoy that kind of "brutal" game you might like this.

Cornwall felt very similar for me. While the tiles are not square but rather sets of hexagons there is still a per turn use of markers to claim resources and generate points based on that. There are more rules in the Cornwall book v. the Carcassonne book, which reduces its level of abstract play for me, but Cornwall is still a good game.

Galaxy of Trian. I haven't played it, but was offered a trade for it and when I looked up a review, they said it's basically Space Carcassone with more player interaction.

I'm not sure about inspired by, but I've heard El Caballero is in the same ball-park. I could be wrong though (since I don't have any experience with El Caballero but it is on my list to check out).

You might find a lot of appealing games simply by looking at higher ranked games with the Tile Placement mechanism. (On its page, sort the Linked Items by rank. Or rating.)

It's a cool game, but no tile placement occurs during play, like in Carcassonne. Rather, the map is completely created during setup, like in Catan.

Delve is a fun game, my family likes it a lot! Unfortunately, it flew under the radar...

This had been described to me as "like Carcassonne" when it first came out.
But when I tried it I was disappointed - the tile-placement part of it felt very restrictive and felt not at all like Carcassonne.

Agreed--placement is more restrictive, and the game is more about generating resources than laying tiles...but I thought I'd mention it.

Thank you so much, so many great suggestions in so little time!

I'm very grateful for all the help.

The only downside is the direct correlation with money leaving my account -.- xp

Kingdomino is similar and is great on its own. But I would not say it expands on Carcassonne. Former takes 15 minutes to play and offers few choices. Latter can take an hour and you have multiple choices.

Castles of Mad King Ludwig and Suburbia has tile placement as the main mechanic.

Carcassonne meets el grande isn't the worst description. Tile-laying and placement of people on an emergent map to score points, but the emphasis on area majority and therefore also managing how many of your people to place is bigger.
