I found these rules a little confusing... this is how we played.. am I missing anything?

1) If you fail a guess.. the only penalty is that you do not draw 2 cards? at the round end. If there a token or something to mark that or something.. we found it hard to remember who failed a guess in 5 player games.

2) At the start of the game each player gets 1 card face down as the suspect and then 2 cards.. They then MUST use those 2 cards strait away as leads. Once everyone has two cards down, and 1 card as a suspect the game starts.

3) When you play your turn you only have TWO actions .. you MUST play a lead and you can also make a guess, which is optional. So while you play two cards at the very start.. from then on you only play 1 card a turn.

4) You do not draw at the end of your turn. You draw your cards during the clean up.

5) When you make a guess, you can guess the time or the suspect OR both. If guess wrong the only penalty is not drawing cards.

6) If you guess either the time or the suspect correctly you gain 1 foot print. Then discard all your leads. If you on a latter turn guess the other part you only get 1 paw print.

Example:
• Turn 1 - Guess 12.. correct,.. gain 1 paw print. Clear Leads
• Turn 2 - Guess Goose.. correct... gain 1 paw print. Clear Lead.. draw new suspect.

So basically each suspect is worth two paw prints. You get nothing extra for the more dangerous guess of 2 things at once. Though if you guess partly you clear the leads so have to remember stuff in your head.

7) After you correctly guess either both at once or gain a 2nd paw print for that card you draw a new suspect. This is exactly like at the start. You get 1 face down to be the suspect and you also get 2 for your hand that you can then you play instantly.

8) as you can guess before playing a lead, if you guess 1st, you can in fact get the 2 free cards on the new suspect and ALSO play a 3rd card as that is your "lead" play for hat turn

9) CleanUP - Clockwise around the table you pass 2, or as many as you have to the next player. They then pass 2 of their choice from their hand AND the cards just added to the next player, until the 1st player gets two from the last player. This means than sometimes there is nothing to pass along.. so you get nothing, or only 1 card. Then you draw 2 cards.. assuming you having failed a gues.

This all looking ok?

1) You draw cards at the end of your turn ... pretty much right after guessing (if you choose to do so), so there is no token as it happens pretty much right away.

2) Correct ... although the facedown card they should be putting in their stand so everyone else can see it

3) You play 2 cards on your turn - so get two leads or red herrings ... you can also do these actions in any order so if you want to guess first you can save playing your two cards for your new card (which you would already get the two free investigate cards for)

4) Clean up phase happens at the end of every players turn, so you draw your cards then (unless if you guessed incorrectly)

5) Correct (although we've added more penalties to guessing incorrectly in our games)

6) Incorrect ... well correct if you guess either time OR suspect you only get one paw token but after a correct guess you clear everything - including your suspect and you get a new one ... So each suspect is either one paw token or two (if you guess both correctly at the same time)

7) Yes ... except as stated above you only get one correct guess per suspect card either time OR suspect (for one paw) .... OR Time AND suspect at the same time (for two paws)

8) You would play a 3rd and 4th card ... but yes that would then end your turn

9) Clean up happens after each persons turn ... during the start of a players turn they should have 4 cards ... after they turn they should have two cards (as two should of been played to investigate) ... the player passed those cards to the next person and then draws two new cards.

edit to add: If a player previously guessed incorrectly, so only gets the two cards passed to them after their turn they will be using both of those cards, so will have no cards to pass - in this case the next player gets to draw two cards to add to the two they had drawn at the end of their previous turn so that they have four cards (as they should not be punished for someone else previously guessing incorrectly)

Quote:
Your turn consists of two phases:
1. Action Phase: You must Investigate once and may Guess once, in either order.
2. Cleanup Phase: Pass 2 Clue cards and then draw 2 Clue Cards.

The Action Phase:
1. Investigate Action (mandatory)
Choose 2 Clue cards from your hand and reveal them one at a time. The Other players must state truthfully whether each Clue card is a Lead or a Dead End.

2. Guess Action
First, declare which details of the Investigation you want to guess; only the Suspect, only the Hour, or both. Then, make your guess.

Guessing Correctly
Take your Investigation Clue Card, place it face-up above your player board and place your collected Paw Print token or tokens on it. Then discard all of your Leads and Dead Ends into a face-up Discard pile next to the Clue Deck.

Guessing Incorrectly
If you guess incorrectly, this means that you will not draw 2 Clue cards at the end of your current turn.

1. If you fail a guess, you don't get to draw 2 new cards during the clean-up phase of your turn. This limits your possible lead cards to choose from to play on the next round. You don't need to remember since the drawing happens at the end of your turn.

2. Yes.

3 The Investigate action (which you can only take once) has you play 2 clue cards.

4. Cleanup happens at the end of each players turn. So the active player that just did their Action phase does their own cleanup right after.

5. That's correct. Having less clue cards can make future guesses more difficult.

6. If you guess correctly, you collect the suspect and the correct number of paws. You also discard all of the Leads and Deadends since you solved that case. If you guess anything incorrectly, you don't discard anything and you don't get to draw more clue cards. You'll only get the cards passed from the player next to you after their turn. If your guess is correct, you don't get to try and guess the other portion later.

7. Once you've captured your suspect, you'll draw a new one and seed like you did at the beginning of the game.

8. If you guess correctly at the start of your turn, you'll get to seed the new Suspect with two cards and then play 2 clue cards during the investigation phase.

9. Since clean-up happens after each players turn, the active player will pass two cards to their neighbor and then draw two new cards. There are times where if a series of guesses are incorrect, players will be starved for cards.

Hope that helps!

I'm still confused... you both are saying you draw 2 cards at the end of your turn AND you draw 2 cards during clean up at the end of the round?

So if you fail a guess you do not draw at end of your turn but you still draw duing the end round clean up step?

The end of your turn IS the clean up phase ... each player has one ... there is no end of round clean up phase ... only end of round is moving Furriarty token

Sarah's right. The clean-up portion is done by the active player after their turn. So player 1 will do their action phase and then their clean-up. Then player 2 will do their action phase and then their clean-up and so on.

One more thing.. I just want to confirm that the CARD DRAW each player dose when they choose not to pass... is that hidden information? Or do all the other players see the face of that card?
