"Will no one rid me of this troublesome press"

Quote:
President Donald Trump has hit out at “very weak” libel laws in the US as he branded an explosive new book detailing the inner workings of the White House as “fiction”.

Suggesting he would like to see tougher laws on speech, Mr Trump said that if libel laws “were strong... you wouldn’t have things like that happen where you can say whatever comes into your head” – referring to Michael Wolff’s book Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House.

Must keep those independent voices suppressed.

And speaking of suppression

Quote:
Countries that are “very harsh” on drug epidemics and “take it very seriously” have less difficulty curbing the problem, claimed President Donald Trump in a press conference on Saturday.

Quote:
“We are going to do everything we can,” said Trump. “It’s a very difficult situation, difficult for many countries. Not so difficult for some, believe it or not, they take it very seriously, they’re very harsh, those are the ones that have much less difficulty. But we are going to be working on that very, very hard this year, and I think we’re going to make a big dent into the drug problem.”

I do believe he had this model in mind

Quote:
President Trump praised President Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines in a phone call last month for doing an “unbelievable job on the drug problem” in the island nation where the government has sanctioned gunning down suspects in the streets.

==============

Mr. Trump placed the call and began it by congratulating Mr. Duterte for the government-sanctioned attacks on drug suspects. The program has been widely condemned by human rights groups around the world because extrajudicial killings have taken thousands of lives without arrest or trial. In March, the program was criticized in the State Department’s annual human rights report, which referred to “apparent governmental disregard for human rights and due process.”

Mr. Trump had no such reservations. “I just wanted to congratulate you because I am hearing of the unbelievable job on the drug problem,” he said. “Many countries have the problem, we have a problem, but what a great job you are doing and I just wanted to call and tell you that.”

And in terms of effectiveness, it seems that Portugal's drug decriminalisation policy is far better than the U.S.A.'s hard line:

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/long_reads/portugal-drug-l...

For example, there are 25% as many Portugese heroin users no compared with 100,000 before.
