Hello to everyone,

I need some help with the following:

An electronic battleship game was given to me and I need the instructions. It seems that the game is from the 80's or 90's. The logo from the manufacture is the one in the picture. If you need any further info or pictures please let me know.

Thanks in advance

If you have pictures of the front and back of the box, that would help. I did a quick check of the various versions of Electronic Battleship and did not see any that seemed like they fit with the publisher logo you provided.

Seems like the logo might be taped off?

Thanks for the reply.
The logo is not taped off, that is the position for the speaker which is very loud. I have a picture of the logo and it is in the first message in the thread. Also the logo appears on the other side of the board in another picture.

Thanks

I am not an expert about games or electronic battleship in particular, but I am stumped. Checked the obvious games in the database and there were none that appeared to match your photos. Also checked Google image search but no luck. I wonder if this could be a small run from an unfamiliar publisher. I see you are in Gibraltar. Are there game manufacturers in your area that might have produced this game?

Isn’t there a “reverse google image search” or something that finds or matches images? Could you try that with the logo? (I could be making this up however!)

I had a guess that the company might be called “CXG” and as it turns out I was right:

There’s nothing there about your specific game, but hopefully that gets you a shade closer.

Looks like the company is CXG Systems, and the game looks a bit like CXG 027 in this document.

You are absolutely correct. This is the game CXG-027. I have been looking for ever for a picture match or anything whatsoever, to no avail. From the image I posted I failed to recognize the huge X between the letter C and G. Next step is to locate the instructions somehow. I will search and see, but be it back from 1984 I don't think I will have any luck.

Thanks for your tremendous help

Pete

Here is a page about CXG Systems which includes information about the company.

I can say with almost complete certainty that the rules are exactly the same as Electronic Battleship.

Here's a link to the Hasbro instructions for Electronic Battleship. As mentioned by another poster, this may be worth trying.
https://www.hasbro.com/common/instruct/Battleship(electronic...

If that doesn't work, here is a store where you can buy game instructions. They do not appear to have this game's instructions in stock, but perhaps they might be able to find them for you.

..."and he kept on giveth"...

Thank you and thank you

I have tried several instructions including the one you posted, they do not work. After I try to enter the second boat or coordinate the game responds with a different sound. I have no idea if I am doing something wrong or the game is faulty. I need to keep trying to locate the original instructions in order to determine if the game is faulty or not.

Thanks again

From all your help it has been determined that the game is a CXG-027. I have tried to get in in touch with the old distributors in the UK to no avail. I have tried to contact someone that was selling one like in on ebay but do not have an answer yet. Where do you think I can post a question in order to get a manual, from a user possibly?

Thank is advance for your help

I would try here first:
http://www.donsgamecloset.com/07GameLinks.html
Email this guy and see if he has the game manual you need or if he can get it.

Another approach would be to buy the game on eBay after first confirming that it contains the manual. That way you will have spare parts in case you need them in the future.

A third approach would be to submit the game to the BGG database and then when it is approved post your question in the game's forums. This would take a while but at least it is free.

I don't think they're the exact same. Well, it IS a Battleship, but according to the CXG catalogue posted before, this game is supposed to be a solo game in which you compete against the computer, not another player.

Electronic Battleship is supposed to be 2 player game, but the only difference with the regular one is that you input the coordinates and hear an explosion if you hit.

I believe the actual instructions may be a little more complicated in the CXG-027 than the Electronic Battleship.

Having said that, the basic rules have to be the same, so it can be played as a regular Battleship I believe.

It is not a solo game, but the option for one player is available. The major problem is not how to play the game but rather how to enter the coordinates for the ships. The game might be faulty but without the instructions I cannot tell if I am doing it wrong or if the game is faulty.

Thanks
Pete

On the main BGG page at the top there is a Misc pulldown menu. You will need to use that twice.

First click Misc and then Publisher (in the Add section) to create CXG as a new publisher. Here's a page on how to fill out the new Publisher submission:
https://boardgamegeek.com/wiki/page/How_To_Add_a_BGG_Publish...

Then click Misc and then Board Game (in the Add section) to create the game. The bottom section of this page has information about what to put in the various fields of the Board Game submission form.

Waiting patiently now...
