I recently bought Ticket to Ride. original North America Map version. we played it many times and love it. I had the idea to do a Train Robbery Variant. My bother inlaw works on the railroad and one of his main functions is fixing derailments. My wife had the idea of workign a derailment into the scenario as well. This is what we came up with after a few ideas and play tests. This works well.
Ticket to Ride: Train Robbery variant
Train Robbery remove 1 of each wagon colour card from the deck With an indelible marker write an "R" or some similar marking representing Robbery
Derailment remove 1 (2 or 3. your choice on level of disruption) Engines from the deck With an indelible marker write an "D" or some similar marking representing Derailment
How to use: game play works as normal with the following exceptions Robbery: when a train is built using a card with an "R" on it a train robbery occurs the player laying the Robbery card may now select a player and steal a random card from them
Derailment: when a train is built using a card with an "D" on it a train Derailment occurs the player laying the Derailment card may now select a players train on the board and derail one of its cars. Lay the wagon token on its side representing derailment. When detailed, that train can NOT count toward route completion Nor longest train.
Repairing a derailment: derailed cars can be put back on the rails restoring the above conditions by 1: this action costs a turn and is the only thing that can be done during this turn. 2a: paying 2 cards of the colour of the train route. Any two matching cards can be used for a Gray route. 2b: OR paying one engine card
