I'm thinking of using the system in an expanded form with the "Celts" added as a third side, as the invasions of England in isolation tells only half the story.

That is, Scotland, Ireland, Wales and Cornwall constituting the Celtic lands. What would the factions be? Suggest White and purple units; they could use the same "Fryd" pieces as the Saxons when attacked.

Celtic kingdoms would be more numerous but smaller, also Ireland and Wales had no cities to speak of and Scotland very few.

Also thinking about prequal turns when the Vikings can raid and plunder, but not settle (Ragnar as Viking leader). Eventually they would be able to Winter in Britain, then with the standard turns go for full conquests.

Islands would be safe conquests and bases for settlement and practically immune from counter-attack, English islands to be added would be Lindisfarne, Sheppey, Thanet, Wight and Lundy.

With good balancing there's no reason for the game to end in 878, it should be possible to go right through to 954 or beyond.
