in general the sherpa can carry as much items as the player...but only 0-2 at initial set up.
What is the reason for that?! I can anyhow take all the items from the sherpa in one turn as my items are not limited..... the only reason that would come to my mind is, that there are items (like the guide) that I do not want to have it in my hand....is this the reason for spreading up items at set up?!

Sure, you could take all the items from your Sherpa right away, but that would cause you to skip movement on your very first turn, and then the weight of all those items would slow you down considerably.
I like to give my Sherpa a variety of Items to use in different situations, and equip them as the need arises.
Just to clarify - Sherpas can only carry up to two items. Characters can carry as many as their weight limit will allow.
And Dan is correct - It is best to let them carry some of the heavier items, or items you might not need until later. But remember, you do not gain any advantage from an Item carried by a Sherpa. You must spend a turn supplying from them, and then you can use it.
Hint - Don't count on your Sherpa being around all game... it's a dangerous mountain
