Hi there,

I need some help to identfy the spanish counters called HRL.
The units I could identify by myself are:

- II Spanish Legion Brigade "Rey Alfonso XIII" (Viator)
- VI Parachute Brigade "Almogávares" (Paracuellos del Jarama)
- VII Brigade "Galicia" (Figueirido)
- X Brigade "Guzmán el Bueno" (Cerro Muriano)
- XI Brigade "Extremadura" (Badajoz)
- XII Brigade "Guadarrama" (Colmenar Viejo)

All units are part of "HRL" but what is "HRL"?

Same with the chinese Regiment "2/121".
I can't find informations about a 2nd Regiment of a 121st Brigade or 121st Division of the Chinese Armed Forces

Thanks for help

I believe HRL stands for "High Readiness Land". This is part of the NATO Rapid Deployment Corps.

The PRC counters are replacements for Next War: Taiwan.

Matthias was asking if there was background information on the PRC 2/121 Regiment as he's not able to find any reference to a parent 121st Brigade or Division.

I could not find anywhere in NWP a list of the various unit acronyms like HRL and such.

The spanish units are not right "now".
Currently there are two kinds of brigades: heavy and light.
Heavy 10, 11 and 12. But they have the same (pretty much) battallions, so there are not mechanized or armored brigades. They are "heavy".
Light: 6 (airborne), 2 (Legión) and 7.

That brigades are framed in two divisions "San Marcial" (heavy) and "Castillejos" (light). And their upper level would be the NRDC (HRL).

But this organization probably will change back (in a near future) to the units depicted in the game, but with the two divisions mentioned.

According to IISS' Military Balance (which is my primary source):

12th Bde has 1 armored inf regt and 1 mech inf regt and is labeled as Armoured.

10th and 11th Bdes have 1 armored in bn and 1 mech inf regt and are labeled Mechanised.

2nd and 7th are both labeled Light and have 2 inf regt. One has been motorized for game purposes.

6th is Airborne and has 3 para bns.

[I only noted the manuever elements of each unit, not the additional supporting elements.]

It's likely I misunderstood the HRL/NRDC reference as the Military Balance isn't terribly clear on it although, regardless of the name, it should have been marked as a Corps HQ rather than a divisional one.

Yes, that´s the old orbat. The spanish brigades have changed to a polyvalent model but the process has not finished yet.

Now the orbat is:
12th brigade: 2 tank battallion, 1 IFV battalion, 1 light (mountain) bon, 1 cavalry (armored reco) bon. In a near future the brigade will change 1 tank bon by a 8X8 vehicle bon(Piranha probably).
11 th brigade: 1 tank bon, 1 IFV bon,1 light bon, 1 cavalry bon and in the near future a 8X8 bon. Actually this bon has APC (M113).
The 10 th brigade, the same that 11.

In the heavy division there are these brigades and another one, 1th brigade.

The light division has the 3 light brigades:
With a light bon (airborne) in the 6 th, 2 8X8 and LMV vehicles bon,s and a cavalry bon.

But this organization was created thinking about a hybrid threat and probably turn back to one more similar to the previous one. With armored and mechanized brigades.
Although wiki is not my favorite source, in this link are the previous and the actual orbat, in spanish I´m afraid.

NRDC is the spanish/multination HQ commited to NATo.
It can be used like HRL or a "classic" HQ (Army Corps or Land Component Command).

Interesting. Were those recent changes? The IISS Military Balance is from 2016.

I think that the decission about all these changes was taken around 2015 and the changes started in 2016.

But there a strong tendence against that orbat and I wish that come back to a more conventional units.
