Looking for a two player card/board game that is both physically light and fits in a small package. Myself and hiking partner both enjoy statically deeper games. I've looked at Fox in the Forest, but it seems a little light. Thanks in advance!

Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars, where you will be forced to drift aimlessly farther into the vast, empty abyss of space until a lack of food, water and oxygen causes you to succumb to Death's cold embrace.

Rage or Sticheln

Because...

Fox in The Forest is 100% playable with a regular deck as well as Rage / Sticheln btw.

The cards are a little larger, but lost cities may be a possibility. You really don't need the center board it comes with, you could maybe find a smaller Tupperware or tin box for the cards and just leave the game box and board behind. Still may be larger than you want though

How about Pocket Mars, Paperback or Villages of Valeria?

The heaviest card game I own without too many cards to comfortably carry would be Pax Porfiriana, but that one has a bunch of little tokens to get lost if you are playing outdoors.

Race for the Galaxy/Jump Drive and San Juan come to mind. The boxes for those games are laughably big, you could easily take out the cards and few tokens and put them in a ziploc bag. I also really like Star Realms.

Battle Line should see you right.

Edit- which is totally playable with a rage deck mentioned above if you don't use the tactics cards, or battlefields unofficial expansion thingy.

I was hiking a few weeks in Scotland with nothing but Haggis - the card game, that is. It's no bigger than a standard deck of cards. In fact, you could play it with a standard deck, though the retail version adds point values to the cards, which makes keeping track of scoring much easier, and learning the game easier as well.

What I really like about Haggis is that it doesn't take up any table space. Yes, you need to play your cards to a pile, but that's about it. Could be your lap. Can be played on a plane, train, in any small bar,...

If you do go for a standard deck of cards, look at rules for Haggis, Court of the Medici (or Casino, the traditional game it was somewhat derived from), Scopa (a traditional Italian - should I say Sicilian? - game).

Have fun!

I’ve just treated myself to Hanamikoji. You should look at that, immediately! 😬

Geek lists are great, but if the OP is anything like me they can’t replace recommendations coming directly from users in response to a particular query! Thanks for point this list out, though!
