"We kind of gave him -- 'All right, you get a mulligan. You get a do-over here,'" Perkins said, using a golf term in an interview on Politico's "Off Message" podcast.

"The evangelical community gives him grace for the mistakes that he's made," he noted.

"I wouldn't say it's not a problem," he said of the President's alleged affair. "(But) evangelicals did not vote for Donald Trump based on his moral qualifications but based upon what he said he was going to do and who he was surrounding himself with."

Perkins is such a waste of breath.

How many mulligans does the Bible say you get anyway? What book of the Bible is that in?

You'd think a little repentance would be in order to encourage such forgiveness. I guess in modern conservative politics, it's not necessary to apologize or even feel a little shame.

You get infinite, if you admit your wrong and truly repent in your heart.

Wanna take any bets on T saying that, let alone actually doing it?

Trump's more likely to brag about fucking porn stars, not apologize for it.

Like I said in the single issue thread, the issue is being part of the political Christian tribe, it's just facets therein.

How many mulligans do you need to 'inspect' a locker room filled with naked, under-aged girls?

There's all sorts of issues I have with his response. Based on this alone, I honestly wouldn't call him a Christian.

That is not true.

It also depends on who you nominate for the Supreme Court.

I flat-out love Tony Perkins now.

He made himself a two-dollar hooker for Donald Frigging Trump and he doesn't even know it yet.

And this is before even more details dribble out from Teh Donald's greasy, grasping, urine-stained private life, maybe 15 minutes from now.

Congratulations, GOP!

Forget the mulligan stuff, surely the bolded section is much more interesting. Because we know full-well who he surrounded himself with - actual self-proclaimed Nazis.

Why are the evangelicals so hot for Nazis?

Oh the hypocrisy. It's thick with the Christian conservatives now. Turning their head from the evil that is Trump, for the long term goal of pushing their agenda. It's almost laughable to see these guys trying to justify Trump, only referring to his time in office, as if all past transgressions are forgiven. When pressed on his CURRENT transgressions, they seem to be lacking for words, and fumble through the interviews like deer caught in the headlights. Perkins was on last night, but so was another gent, with Don Lemon, and the gent fumbled his way through the interview so badly it was embarassing. Of course, as soon as a lib Dem gets back in the office, they will be once again breathing fire, about how wayward we have gone. shake

Totes. In your clip, Trump claims to be a Christian from way back.

Here's a transcript for those that don't want to watch the clip.

"That pastor, hoo boy, his sermons, just yes, I could sit there, and be like, great man, just great, greatest, all day with the sermons, so yeah I thank God, sure, probably, he made my brain and my brain is amazing with business just perfection, let me tell you, better than God probably maybe not we'll have to see I guess, but I own the best buildings, so yeah I pray sometimes, if that's what you want to call it."

I wish that paraphrase was an exaggeration, I really do.

It was crazy to watch him try to turn self-worship into something Christian and have people just eat that shit up. I have to respect that he didn't lie, he essentially told them explicitly, no I don't have any relationship with God, I'm not really a Christian in any detectable sense and they loved it. I found him to be even mocking at times.

Throw another Christian paradox on the pile.

It's all about the plausible deniability.

As far as they know he's a "changed man". Besides he's "grown up" in the last couple years!

I picked this picture because. It looks like something you'd see on the wall at Christian pre-school.

Seeing the clip multiple times and somehow that was missed in the narrative because I swore I heard he had recently(2016) became a Christian. Even the clip has the date 2015 in the background marking when it was held. Something about it all was off. But I mean, your relationship with God shouldn't be a direct transition to your businesses. He mentions ultimately a self help book versus the actual Bible. The message of the gospel isn't "just be better." Asking for forgiveness is part of the conversion. It is one of the four aspects to the daily prayer. He knows of God, but he has no real relationship with him.

"Nobody, absolutely nobody, can take a mulligan like I can. I take the best mulligans. Everybody says so. Beautiful, wonderful, amazing mulligans. You know who wishes they could take a mulligan like I can? Crooked Hillary Clinton. She's a real piece of work, isn't she? And Obama. Do you think they have mulligans in Kenya? They don't. They can't. Not as good as mine. And you know the best thing, I don't even pay for my own mulligans. That's right. Mexico is going to pay for my huge, enormous mulligans. Huge like my hands. Look at these beauties, aren't they fantastic? These are the hands of a man who could never collude. Never. Made up. Just like the so called dossier the fake news wants you to believe. Never happened."

But yeah, morals be damned, the ends justify the means. Not only can't they stand by their convictions, they can't even inhabit the same time zone as their convictions, and are blind to their own hypocrisy. They do seem to have as much self awareness as the President, though, so I guess that's a thing.
