If you could touch the alien sand and hear the cries of strange birds and watch them wheel in another sky, would that satisfy you?

♬ He is not appreciated ♬

I just came here to post the news.
Sad, sad day. A huge loss of a true poetic, uncompromising genius.
My all-time favorite band and username on several sites.

Day by day.
The moon gains on me.
Day by day.
The moon gains on me.
Purchased pair of flabby wings.
I took to doing some HOVERING.
Here is a list of incorrect things.
HOVERED mid-air outside a study.
An academic kneaded his chin,
sent in the dust of some cheap magazines.
His academic rust, could not burn them up.
Recruited some gremlins.
To get me clear of the airline routes.
I paid them off with stuffing from my wings.
They had some fun with those cheapo airline snobs.
The stuffing loss made me hit a timelock.
I ended up in the eighteen sixties.
I've been there for one hundred and twenty five years.
A small alteration of the past. Can turn time into space.
Ended up under Ardwick Bridge.
With some veterans from the U.S. Civil War.
They were under Irish patronage.
We shot dead a stupid sergeant,
but I got hit in the crossfire.
The lucky hit made me hit a time lock.
But, when I got back.
The place I made the purchase, no longer exists
I'd erased it under the bridge.
Day by day.
The moon came towards me
By such things.
The moon came towards me.
So now I sleep in ditches.
And hide away from nosey kids.
The wings rot and feather under me.
The wings rot and curl right under me.
A small alteration of the past.
Can turn time into space.
Small touches can alter more than a mere decade.

Dammit, two great, left field artists gone in one day. Mark E. Smith was a one-off, the grumpy, drunken old poet that he was. It was Hip Priest and Hit The North for me, all the way, especially during the six years or so I lived up that way. I'll raise a glass to him this weekend.

If it's M.E.S. and your granny on bongos, it's the Fall.

An acquired taste that has paid me dividends for over 30 years now, M.E.S. was imminently quotable and totally uncompromising.

Perverted by Language, indeed. It happened to me, anyway.

Hip Priest, indeed.
I discovered the band in late '88 through MTV;s playing of Big New Prinz, but it was the vinyl purchase of This Nation's Saving Grace that showed me the true greatness of the band. I started buying whatever releases I could find of their back catalog.

Each day after college, I walked two miles to my job at a printing company. I listened non-stop on my cassette walkman to The Fall's compilation albums Hip Priest and Kamerads and In Palace of Swords Reversed. Hip Priest is brilliant.

In San Francisco for their show in support of The Infotainment Scan, I ran into Mark E. Smith, Craig Scanlon, and Stephen Hanley in the bar across the street from the venue. All I could say to Mark was, "Mark, it's going to be a great show tonight." He replied, "I certainly hope so." After the show, as we exited the building, we saw The Fall's tour bus. On the front marquee the message read, "SHOVE IT".

Freaking yeah. Perverted by Eat Y'Self Fitter. Top 10 Fall song for sure.

My comment on The Guardian? That wasn't me!

I'm still shocked by the loss of the Hip Priest.

Our local community station RTRfm has been playing Fall songs pretty solidly.
He certainly did his bit for edgy rock. It's been interesting listening to stuff that's not the standard Fall "hits".
