The Subject sums it up.

* Opponent was at 7 Glory points.
* Opponent had 28 gold on Ship after selling goods during port action.
* Opponent also had the "Stash from any port" glory card.

My opponent decided to sell their Galleon for 15 gold to get the remaining gold needed to win while in a different port.

Is this allowed or do they actually need to own a ship in order to win at the end of the turn.

-Thanks

Nope, you can't do it. I think the rules specifically forbid it, but if not it's in the FAQ.

Did a quick search and found a rules citation in a previous thread on the same subject: Re: Selling your ship

Page 8 (right-hand column) of the rules says you can never be without a ship:

Quote:
You can never be “ship-less” – you must buy a new ship when selling your old one. If that isn’t possible, then you can’t sell your ship.

Thanks, I don't think I worded the search correctly before posting my own.

I appreciate the quick responses from both.

Running some calculations I believe they still won. There was still 10+ gold to purchase a Sloop or Flute during their port action.

Galleons are sold for 10 gold.

Only way to get 15 gold is if they had 5 ship modifications, and or special weapons to sell along with the ship.

And the special weapons can be sold without selling the ship. The modifications cannot. Could be relevant if the ship was damaged (-1 gold in selling prise for each damage).
