Is the train meant to be places underneath the number of the space? Or is it placed between the numbers?

This does slightly affect how the crosses work and the turnout space.

For example, if the train is on space 4 underneath the number, then is the first turnout space a "4.5" space, still requiring you to have moved 1 more space from 4? Or if you are between numbers, then moving from between 3-4 by 1 space, puts you either in the turnout space or the nose of your train in front of the cross underneath Wichita.

It's on the number position (underneath the number).
