Apologies if there is a similar thread already.

I received a $20 gift card to a local game store and I'm looking for recommendations of what to get.

I know I don't tend to like games where you're trying to bluff/conceal a secret role. Also not usually a fan of games where you sabotage/harm another player's progress on purpose (this might be called a "take that!" mechanic?)

What games should I consider? Thanks!

You should be more specific about your tastes. Also, we have no idea what the game store stocks, so fishing for a recommendation is is going to have mixed results at best.

Look at the BGG top 100, go to the store and start asking questions. You don’t have to spend the card right away.

Good luck!

Sounds like you might prefer a co-op game?

I do like co-ops, but not exclusively. What I mean by no sabotage/harm on purpose is more like if that is a main feature of the game. It might be called "Take That!" mechanic? I am new to gaming as a more serious hobby so I'm still in the process of learning the terminology.

Kingdomino or Biblios.

Codenames or Once Upon a Time.

Lots of good choices! If your limit is the 20, otherwise hundreds more!

I, too, do not like take that or conflict heavy games, so my collection reflects that.

+1 for Kingdomino.
+1 for Codenames.

Sail to India if you are wanting something "slightly gamier"?

Despite your aversion to confrontation/bluffing in games, I’m going to recommend Hanamikoji because I was in the same position last week with a £20 voucher and this is looking like a fantastic purchase no matter who you ask.

I've played that one actually! I wouldn't consider it bluffing or confrontation at all; it's just secret information.

Also yes it's a beautiful game, I hope you enjoy it!
