My favorite 18xx game for six players is two games of 1846 with three players each.

It starts in July, whereas Guderian's Blitzkrieg II starts in October.

And, of course, as a result, the map is further west.

G.B.2 is a larger and more complex game play and Smolensk is very light weight compared to the other OCS games according to the write ups ....

GB2 is much larger and covers a much longer period of time.

Smolensk is just 1 map and the full campaign game is about 2 months.

But Smolensk is OCS so I would not say it is light weight, just smaller.
there are still a lot of units, especially for the Soviets.

The German player has a real challenge in pushing his panzer and motorised forces very hard to gain ground before the bulk of these forces are diverted by Hitler.

You need to know all about overruns, extenders, HQ throw/draw and bridging.

The Soviets also have a very difficult challenge. There is a substantial quality difference but the Soviets can't just defend.

I really enjoyed playtesting Smolensk and I really hope it is published before Monstergame.con, which is towards the end of June 2018.
