As per title, the playmat is gorgeous!
Lovely material, lies flat immediately even after being rolled up on a sea voyage.

But why does it absolutely stink?
Is this normal with large mats?
And will it go away after a while?

Regards, Sal

Just give it some fresh air for a day or two and the smell will be gone. (Hopefully )

It’s made from petrochemicals that used to be seaweed.

It's the new immersive experience, they imported the authentic smell of the Japan coastline.

Welcome to neoprene mats. They air out after a day or so , just drape them somewhere to air out for a day or so then you're gtg

I had to air my legendary encounters firefly may out for half a week before the smell went away. Shame it didn't help the artwork go away in that game...

Because the playmat is glued with "bone glue".
Glue made of animal bones.
Many boxes and mats made with bone glue.

Probably part of the advertisement campaign experience for upcoming CMON campaigns.

Turn your enemies favourite two headed slavering mongrel F*****G pet into glue; then glue that F*****G modular battle map to your beaten enemies festering carcass and use their bloody lifeless eyeballs for diiiiice!
HATE!!!!!!!!

Looking forward to getting my own fish smelling map which should be here soon and the game whenever that shows up.

It's pretty common for these types of mats to smell horribly at first. Letting them air out for a little bit usually fixes the issue pretty quickly, so hopefully that ends up being the case for this mat as well.

I'm looking forward to receiving mine.
