When looking at monster placement, for 2,3, or 4 players, the shape of that holds the color is different in different scenarios and I can;t figure out what that means. As an example look at the monsters in the scenario 1 setup vs scenario 2.Scenario 1's are flatter, while scenario 2's are more triangular. I am thumbed through the scenario book and sometimes they show the flat ones, sometimes the triangular ones. What does it mean???

Read the rule book, it is explained.

It means nothing, it's just different tiles have different orientations.

It depends on the orientation of the hexes on the map. Sometimes the map is oriented so that the hexes have an edge at the top, and sometimes so that they have a corner at the top. This results in slightly different graphics.

Thank you for the explanation, Simon. I totally missed the sentence about hex orientation.
