I Custom built a top frame, to fit into our dining table. A local carpenter then built it for 100$, so I didn't have to pay 1000$ for one of the fancy board game table brands. I'm sharing my design and schematic files, so you can save too

This is the final product:

I I designed this for my kitchen table. Feel free to adjust the frame measures to your own table, and get a carpenter to build the frame for you.
The side rails keep it snug and steady on top of the table, without gaps or any shaking. You can mount the frame before a gaming session, and then simply lift the frame up, store it away, and have you dining table back.

I also got some blue velvet and blue speed cloth from the local Fabric/Textiles store. I glued those together, back to back, and then cut it to my table size. It slides between the table and the big white frame, so i can flip it to chose between 3 different gaming surfaces: velvet, speed cloth, or wood (by simply not using using any Fabric).

Couple more shots of the result:

I'm loving it, and hope this can help or motivate someone to built their own gaming table. If you do, please let me see some pictures

The skirt stops it from doing so. The Frame only lifts if pulled straight up, without any tilt.

PS: the entire structure is quite heavy, so I thing it would not not rise even without the skirt. The skirt is there, mainly to avoid lateral movement.
