I just purchased this game and it says 14+ while everyone online says 10+. The only reference I found was something here at bgg: https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgameversion/344207/english-ed...

But it doesn't explain why there was a 4 year change in the recommended age. Are there advanced rules or something?

Publishers suggested guidelines often are unrelated to gameplay as they can be distributed in countries with regulations and restrictions regarding safety testing of the included pieces. Sometimes, to avoid the cost of such testing, publishers will mark something as 14+ for it to be legal to sell in the most countries.

My son is 9 and has been playing Biblios with me for 2 years, for whatever that's worth.

I would lean towards the 10+ considering gameplay complexity.

The "14+" may be forced by a legislative regulation, wouldn't worry about that.

Easily playable by a 10 year old, unless they are prone to swallowing dice.

To be fair, some of us 45+ year-olds also have that problem...
