This variant does two things:
1) Makes the AI's turn go much faster and much smoother
2) Makes the AI much harder.

The rule changes are simple. Do not roll dice for the AI. Instead, move ALL AI ships to the available planet colony tracks, then advance each ship one space along the colony track, then collect resources, then activate the special ability (this follows the actions as listed at the top right of the activation board).

When the AI gains full culture, repeat the first three steps (move any ships that have come back to the Rogue Galaxy, then progress economy and diplomacy by 1 for all ships).

Instead of spending 1 Energy and 1 Culture to make the AI re-roll, they simply skip that step (movement, economy, diplomacy, energy, culture, or utilize colony). Note: You may initially think doing so would allow you to prevent the AI from ever leaving their galaxy and therefore make it an easy win so long as you always have 1 energy and 1 culture to spare. You would be wrong. The AI will quickly obtain resources and be able to leave their galaxy via the extra actions gained through culture. Even if you were somehow able to stop the AI from the leaving, the accumulated energy would quickly cause the AI to reach the final spot of the upgrade track and end the game that way.

This makes the solo game more of a puzzle in which you need to find the solution while you can quite literally watch the clock tick away as each turn the AI ships move around the colony tracks. You won't be able to stop all 4 ships so you have to choose which ships to race and which planets you have to write off as a loss.

I strongly recommend ignoring the VP gained by the AI for upgrading its galaxy and just focus on the ability it is granted. The AI will be gaining planets and galaxy upgrades at a much higher pace and the 9+ points they can gain from upgrades often tips the scales too far in the AI's favor. The threat of outright losing the game from the AI achieving the last upgrade is scary enough.

Tl;Dr - Don't roll dice, just follow the steps on the Activation card in order listed (applying to each ship).
