Hey, we just played a 2 player game, controlling 2 stuffies each, and we are finding ourselves very low on health (stuffing). Is the only way to heal the encourage action (giving up a die to give a stuffing to another Stuffy)?

Or perhaps we should just play as 1 stuffy each? We just finished the 3rd chapter.

You shouldn’t be running low at all. You should be drawing a full set of five dice for each stuffy’s turn.

You should be rolling the white dice at some point on your turns and getting stuffing.

Any white dice you draw can be rolled singly or together for a chance to get more stuffing. You need to roll a number higher than your current amount of stuffing.

Suppose you're at 5 stuffing and pull 2 white dice. You'd probably roll both for a good chance at rolling 6+ and get 1 stuffing. If you're low on stuffing, say 2, you'd probably roll each die individually hoping to roll 3+, then 4+ and hopefully get 2 stuffing.

Oh, crap. Sorry I forgot to mention that we recalling that rule as well. But if one player draws 2-3 white dice in one turn, they aren't put back into the bag until a miniom turn, right?

Are you making sure to keep a die stored for defense as well? It makes a huge difference.

Oh yeah we did not early on. Do we gain more stuffing whenever we turn to a new chapter?

No. Other than card effects (hi there, meat mallet) you only gain more by rolling white dice or if someone gives it to you. Luke is absolutely right -- you should always have a dice stored on your card for defense, ideally the same color that your (non-Theodora) stuffy can re-roll.

Just to be sure, do you mean Story? If so, at the beginning of each story, everything resets. Items go back into decks and Stuffies start with full stuffing and no hearts.

If you mean a different board, no they don't get more stuffing.

That is correct. After minions activate discard any remaining dice on the threat track and place ALL discarded dice back in the bag including any white dice that may or may not have been drawn, used and discarded.....

I think we hugely underestimated this and all four of us collapsed on chapter 2 of the first story.

It was an interesting learning moment as we are playing with our kids, who wanted to do all the exciting things like looking for observation points etc but they identified afterwards about the defence dice when I asked them what they thought we could do better next time.

Okay, I think that our biggest problem was that we weren't putting much emphasis on the die being held in reserve as we should have been. That has made the road ahead much more difficult. That should be enough to fix our health woes.

Thanks everyone

Yeah, we figured out really quickly the value of keeping a die in your reserve. You start with 5 stuffing and most minions, if they hit you will do at least 4 damage. That's practically near collapse already with just one hit. And regaining stuffing can sometimes be tricky depending on dice drawn and roll results. Although, other players discarding dice to give out stuffing can also be useful when bad dice draws mean having no real good options for moving/attacking.

So keeping a dice handy for defense is critical. It can literally mean the difference between getting hit once and struggling to regain stuffing the rest of the game, and possibly taking no damage at all. And taking less damage is always better than taking the full hit.
