Hey there everyone!

Long-time lurker, first-time poster. I am finishing up a coding bootcamp at Northwestern University and for my final project I'm creating a mobile-friendly website that allows a board or card game designer to rapidly prototype a deck of cards!

This will come in handy for my 500 million unfinished games - I hate hand-writing out the cards!

Anyways, I decided to blog about it as I go - it's due in four weeks so I'll probably be up on it in my Twitter and on my word press - here's some links if you want to follow along.

The application will be free to use once it's done so everyone here can get a helping hand

Keep gaming!

Will this be just to print cards or something that helps calculate the odds of certain hands coming up.

Hi Thomas,

Actually, neither. Allow me to explain

So - TL : DR version - it's a virtual deck of cards where you can enter custom fields, save your deck, and play it (shuffles, draw, discards). Then if you don't like it, you just enter a new deck, and playtest some more.

Normally, when I'm going through my deck(s) of cards for board and card games I create I pre-create my decks with my computer using a notepad or a spreadsheet - i.e. I'm typing them up before I get to the point where I'm writing them down, card by card, on blank cards I buy from shamazon or whatnot...

What this app will do will allow me (or whomever) to enter a deck of cards into the system (as a table in a database or whatever) and then "play a game" with those cards. The rules for the cards will not be 'in place" as far as, say, "I'm playing a 'Draw Two' card on you" where the system will automatically give the other player two more cards.

What this will do is replace the need for the physical deck of cards. AKA, you don't have to spend the time hand-writing out 100 cards for a game you're testing, just to say "crap, these rules don't work" and then have to do it all over again... or take the time (and ink and cardstock costs) to print up sheets and sheets of playtest cards and then have to cut them and have the decks be all wonky and not uniform (and shuffle like crap).

Hello James,

Our twitter feed will probably be our most common outlet for day-to-day communication, with the blog highlighting things every couple of days. I may also do some live-programming feeds. I also may be taking suggestions if time permits... this project is due in roughly one month.

if you need the links let me know

I've wanted something like this for ages. Hope it comes together well. Any chance of being able to add images to these decks? Not sure how that would be accomplished without having to host the images unless it could somehow store the decks locally.

Hello Sid,

Glad you like what we're trying to cook up! For now, we're going text-based, as image-hosting would be expensive and this is just a college project. I have considered making an upgraded 'premium' account-type that would both allow image uploads and privatization of constructed decks. Let me know what you think!

Also, please anyone interested in this project, please like and subscribe to the various media outlets you follow

Gotcha - that makes sense. Not quite what I'm looking for but I can see where it would be very helpful.
