So this is forum version of Werewords. It is not a standard Werewolf game. I call it a Test game to see if this can work in a forum setting and to see if there is interest in the game.

Rules:
I will start the game tomorrow (Feb 16, 2018) at 11am BGG time. If you want to play you MUST be able to be online (in Cassy) at that time.

The game can be played with 4 to 11 players. So as long as we have at least 4 I'll start the game. If we have less than that, then I guess there isn't enough interest.

When I start the game I'll assign the roles in Cassy based on the number of players
4 - Werewolf, Seer, 2xVillager
5 - add a Villager
6 - add a Villager
7 - add a Werewolf
8 - add a Beholder
9 - add a Villager
10 - add a Villager
11 - add a Minion

I'll then also assign one person to be the Mayor. I'll then give the mayor a list of 5 words to choose from. (We'll start this test game with easy words, we can make them harder if this goes well and people want to play more).

The Mayor will then pick one of those words, and I'll pass that information on to the Werewolf(s) and the Seer. If there are two werewolves they will know who each other are but will not be sharing a chat room. If there is a Beholder I'll let them know who the seer is, and if there is a Minion I'll let them know who the werewolves are.

If the Mayor is a werewolf, he can lie, he will also be given a list of words that are slightly harder to choose from. If the Mayor is the seer he will be given a list of slightly easier words to choose from.

I'll then post "dawn" in the game thread, which will mean people can start asking the Mayor yes/no questions.

In the off-line game there is a timer, we will not be worrying about the timer in this format. We will just be using the number of questions as our limit. We'll start with a limit of 20 for this test game and if we play future games we can adjust that as needed.

So people will ask questions in the forum, and the mayor will answer by quoting the question with

#N - Yes
or
#N - No
or
Maybe (doesn't count towards the # of questions allowed)
or
So Close (can only use once)
or
#N - Correct

as an answer. The #N will be a count of how many questions have been answered. If we get to answer #20 without a "Correct", then the village has lost. If the answer is "Correct" then the village has won.

The Mayor can use his/her discretion to skip similar/cross-posted questions, but otherwise should always answer every question.

If the village wins, then the werewolf/wolves will then have the chance to figure out who the seer is. They will be allowed to post 3 times each in the thread. Each of their final post must contain a [vote X] on who they think the seer is, they can be different people. If either of them are right, they steal the win from the village. If they are wrong the village keeps the victory.

If the village looses, the mayor will reveal the word, then the village will then have the chance to figure out who the wolves (and or minion) are. They only need to find one of them not all of them. Each player will get 3 final posts and one must include a vote [vote X]. The player with the majority of votes will then reveal if they are a wolf/minion or not. If they are, then the village wins, if they aren't then the wolves win. If there is a tie of votes then both players must reveal. You can not vote for yourself, and if everybody has just one vote on them, then the wolves win. The votes will be counted once everyone has voted.

As moderator I'll help get the games started, and I'll turn on the vote tally system for the end game, but for the most part I don't expect to be needed much. If anybody goes over the post count during the end game, then the other team will auto-win. This is because in the live game there is a timer, and that is just impractical in a forum based version.

If the village loses after 20 questions and there are 2 Wolves, voting out either Wolf will result in a win, correct?

Note that I am asking this BEFORE the game starts, so please do not accuse me of the n00b Wolf error of asking if they can lie about their role name.

Oh good point. I forgot to talk about that.

Yes, they are allowed to lie... however the seer might figure that out pretty quickly/easily and then when the village doesn't get the word can easily point everyone to the wolf, so they'll need to be careful if they choose to lie.

yeah, I've played it with two groups so far, and both of them really enjoyed it. Live it is a quick fun time. It will be interesting to see how it translates to forum play.

Yeah the Mayor is a public role but they have a private role as well, and it can be any of the roles. I've played 6 games so far and only once was the Mayor not a villager, he was the seer... I was the wolf, and guess wrong too. (he was my second choice)

Okay... Just one quick rule I'm making up now just to make sure this gets started on time...

If you are assigned the mayor role and I give you your 5 words to choose from, you then have 5 minutes to make your choice. If I don't get a respond in that 5 minutes, I'm kicking you from the game and re-rolling the roles and finding a new Mayor.

Once the game has started it is up to you guys the pace it plays. I suspect it will go pretty quick since everyone is supposed to be able to be online when the game starts, but really the mayor has control over the pace based on how quick he/she answers the questions.

Once we are in the end game, then I've not given a time limit but a post limit, but I do hope you guys don't drag it on for a week or something with no body posting. Try to keep it quick in the spirit of the game.

-On a personal note: My husband asked me to leave work early today, so I'll only be online for 3hrs after the game (and 1 of those hours I'm in a meeting). It shouldn't really matter, but I just wanted to give you guys a heads up. If the game ends after I'm gone for the day I'll make it official and take care of closing it up in Cassy over the weekend. But you guys should be able to process the end game without me.

The Cassandra Automatic Vote Tally System

Your Moderator has enabled the Cassandra Automatic Vote Tally system
for this game. In order for it to function correctly, your votes will
need to be formatted correctly. The following rules will explain what
you will need to do:

Players
1. All votes must be bolded

2. The entire vote statement must be bolded and enclosed in brackets:
[vote jmilum]

3. If your game allows, and you [vote nightfall] your vote will
be locked. Your moderator may have disabled nightfall votes.

4. Vote tallies will be automatically posted to the game thread
regularly if the tally has changed. The Tally and Vote Logs (for each
game day) are also available on the Cassandra game page.

5. If your vote is not counted be sure to check the Vote Log page and
see if it was marked invalid and why.

6. Case does not matter and simple typos will not cause the vote to fail.

7. You may [vote no lynch] if your game allows it.

8. Non voting players will be listed in the tallies. This will only be
correct if the Moderator notes which players have been killed (see below)

9. Editing a vote post will invalidate the vote and it will not be counted.

Moderators
1. The moderator will need to post [Dawn] when the day begins
(after the night results are posted) and [Dusk] when the lynch
deadline has passed and the day is over. Votes will not be counted
after [Dusk] has been posted. They will be registered again
after [Dawn] is next posted.

2. You may include a day number in the dawn and dusk post for
informational purposes, but it will not be used by the system.
Cassandra will increment an internal counter each time it sees
[Dawn] no matter what day is shown in a dawn post (i.e.
[Dawn 3] the three is allowed but ignored)

3. After dusk has been posted, the Moderator may go to the game page
on Cassandra to request a Final Tally to be posted before the normal
scan period has elapsed (i.e. Game Y gets scanned at 45 min. after the
hour, if it lynches at 7pm the moderator may request a tally to be
posted from the game page before 7:45pm. it will also be posted
regardless of whether or not it has been changed since the last
posting) - Do this by clicking on the 'Force Vote Tally' link.

4. You will need to note which players were killed via the lynch or at night by
either posting [killed jmilum] in the thread, or by going to the game
page and editing the player list. When posting in the thread, be sure to post
[dusk] before posting the lynch kill, and post [dawn] before
posting the night kill.
Example:
A. lynch time has passed so post [dusk]
B. goto the game page and select a final tally to be posted
C. check the final tally and post [killed melsana]
D. after the night deadline has passed post [dawn]
E. post the night kill with [killed kima]

Your Moderator has chosen to use the Longest Held Last Vote method for a tiebreaker - This is just for Cassandra system, and there may be a different tiebreaker specified by your Moderator in the ruleset.
Your Moderator has chosen to allow Nightfall votes.
Your Moderator has chosen to disallow No Lynch votes.

I haven't played this game before, but I imagine in-person with a time limit everyone's just firing off as many questions as they can get in?

With a 20 question round limit, I think we should have some discussion of questions before the official asking, especially as we get to later questions. Just want to make sure we're being the most effective we can with the questions in this Village. I like to run a tight ship, you know!

Okay... rule I forgot to say... (this is why this is a test game)

Mayor can't talk, other than to answer the questions.
