I already have Stone Age but i would take the next step away from intro games. I’ve looked at Champions of Midgard but i heard it isnt that good with only two player. Is there a good two player workerplacement out there?

Keyflower works well with 2 but it is more like 2 or 3 steps away from intro games. Still, very much worth it.

Viticulture Essential Edition may be a good next step.

+1 for Viticulture EE (with or without Tuscany), also a big fan of Agricola at any number.

+1 for viticulture EE + Tuscany

Some would say Le Havre isn't your typical Worker placement game but it has ways to block people from using buildings. Especially when you need certain resources and building ships.

Champions of Midgard is really fun at 2.
Other good worker placement games I really like at 2:
Viticulture Essential Edition
Shakespeare
Yokohama (worker placement-ish)
Euphoria: Build a Better Dystopia
Raiders of the North Sea

Viticulture & Raiders of the North Sea both work great with 2, and have the benefit of working great with 3, 4, (and 5 and 6 in the case of Viticulture) as well.

So +1 to both of those

Mint Works is good at 1-4 and fits in your pocket, and it's over in 15 minutes too so you can play again

I also quite like playing Lancaster as a two player game (where you are playing four player with two of you).

Second that. Good mid-weight game that plays pretty well with two. As a bonus: Often offered on Amazon for about $20.

Maybe because it is a bit more complex than "a step up from Stone Age"?

"A step up" doesn't mean "a tiny step up". Caylus have pretty straightforward rules, but it's hard to master. I don't see how Fields of Arle or many other games mentioned here are lighter than Caylus, especially for the rules.

+1 Caylus

Also I really like Empires: Age of Discovery, the latest edition of the game formerly known as Age of Empires III: The Age of Discovery.

Snowdonia is excellent but good luck finding a copy.
